ANALYZE AND ANSWER THE ATTACHED CASE STUDY QUESTIONS

1. JOHN IS UNHAPPY THAT HIS PAY IS NEARLY THE SAME AS THAT OF AN

INEXPERIENCED NEW HIRE, WHILE AMINAH IS DEMOTIVATED THAT SHE IS
PAID 20% LOWER THAN HER MALE COLLEAGUES, ALTHOUGH SHE IS THE
BETTER WORKER. AS THE HR MANAGER, WHAT WOULD YOU DO FOR JOHN
AND AMINAH ASSUMING THEY ARE A VALUABLE ASSETS TO YOUR
ORGANISATION?

Its important to understand that employees aren’t simply a means to an end. As a

matter of fact, they’re the most important part of a company Every employee enjoys
recognition in the workplace.when they know their hard work isn’t going unnoticed.
Employees will feel motivated to continue doing well on their job so, as a HR manager, I
will show my appreciation by thanking to them for the job they’re doing either give them
some bonus when they’re hardworking in their job. Be sincere and showthem how much
their efforts mean to the company. Congratulate them for successfully completing job,
teaching an important milestone or an important business goal. After all, we should be
celebrated a party and give some present to the best employee every month as it’s the
path toward innovation

2. HOW DOES AN EMPLOYER ACHIEVE PAY EQUITY?

Employer achieve pay equity by looking at the abilities and capabilities of employees
in carrying out tasks. So, in order to achieve pay equity as well, employers need to
relate this salary equity to employee performance. If the employee has an excellent
performance, then for the employer to achieve pay equity is highly encouraged as it is
an appreciation to the employees. Apart from that, the way employers achieve pay
equity is to pay EPF contributions to each employee.

The employer must ensure that the employee’s monthly contribution is properly
deducted from the monthly salary and paid to the EPF. It is the responsibility of the
employer to control the employee’s salary well. In addition, employer achieve pay equity
through individual salary. Individual salary should be appropriate to the complexity of the
job or the level of authority and accountability or responsibility. So, in job appraisal it is
the task and not the person being appraised. So, in salary equity there is a difference
that employers need to create in salary between different types of jobs in the
organization because of the value and importance of each. This comparison of
individual differences is not only related to salary level but also related to working time,
leave, pensions and other benefits.

3. WHEN IS AN EMPLOYEE UNDERPAID OR OVERPAID

Underpaid: Raise the pay of underpaid employees to the minimum of the rate range for their
pay grade if the organization is financially stable and wishes to retain the employees.
Overpaid:
 Freeze the salary and increments until general salary revisions bring the other jobs up
to the same level.
 Transfer or promote some or all of the employees involved to jobs for which they can
legitimately be paid for their current pay rates.
 Combine the two actions above.
 If the above are not possible, then the rate will be revised downwards to reflect the
appropriate pay range for their grade.
