I’m on holiday in Oregon, USA, where I’ve just had an amazing experience – goat yoga! HOME ABOUT CONTACT

First, a few facts I learned about goats. They were domesticated about 10,000 years ago, approximately 4,000 years before
horses. These curious and clever animals can figure out how to open a locked box. Like dogs, goats ask for something they
can’t reach by making eye contact with a person, and their eyes have horizontal pupils. They’re also natural jumpers and
climbers – and can even climb trees! This makes them perfect for goat yoga, which was created in Oregon in 2016 by a
woman named Lainey Morse. Her idea spread quickly and is now very trendy. If I hadn’t tried it for myself, I wouldn’t have
understood why it’s so popular!
Our class was held outdoors at Lainey’s small farm, where she keeps miniature goats. As the instructor led us through the
yoga class, the goats wandered round and occasionally jumped on people. When a goat jumped on my back during a pose, it
felt wonderful! The goat stood on me for about 30 seconds, creating a slight pressure which helped me relax into the pose. It
also made me laugh, and in general, there was a lot of laughter! When the hour ended, I felt peaceful and happy. If I could do
a class here again, I would, but there’s such
a long waiting list. As soon as I find goat yoga near my home in London, I’ll sign up for it.
Comments
Here in Los Angeles, “party goats” are a big trend. The owners say the animals enjoy the people and music, and the hosts
say the goats give everyone something to talk about.
Bradley2W
From volunteering at a goat shelter, I know that goats can form strong emotional bonds with people. They’re also good
“therapy animals” for people with disabilities or illnesses.

I live in Mountain View, California, where goats are used to cut the grass at Google headquarters!
