1. Stance detection for Afaan Oromo Text using Deep Learning Approach

Natural Language Processing (NLP) is a branch of Artificial Intelligence (AI) that studies how
machines understand human language. Stance is defined as the expression of the speaker’s
standpoint and judgment toward a given proposition. Stance detection plays a major role in
analytical studies measuring public opinion on social media, particularly on political and social
issues. Stance detection in social media is concerned with individuals’ views toward objects of
evaluation through various aspects related to the users’ post and personality traits. The
information posted on social media; such as fake news information, individual opinions/feelings,
hate speeches, inciting ethnic violence have negative impacts on the political transition and other
issues of the country. As a solution to this problem, the study was proposed automating the
Afaan Oromo stance detection text model using Deep learning and feature extraction techniques
to build a detection model. To build our model we use a combination of the RNN, LSTM and Bi-
LSTM algorithm.

2. Design Event Extraction Model From Afaan Oromo Texts Using Deep Learning
Approach

Natural Language processing is a branch of Artificial Intelligence whose main goal is to

automatically represent and process various types of human language using computational
algorithms. Event extraction is used in a variety of natural language processing applications,
including information retrieval, information extraction, question answering, document
summarization, knowledge and reasoning, and others. We proposed an event extraction model
from Amharic texts to extract free events by combining a Deep Learning approach with Natural
Language Processing techniques. We have also implemented deep learning approaches (CNN,
LSTM, and Bi-LSTM) separately to event detection and event classification and compare the
performance of each model.

3. Afaan Oromo text Entailment Recognition Using Deep Neural Network

Textual entailment recognition is one of the basic natural language understanding (NLU) tasks.
Understanding the meaning of sentences is a prerequisite before applying any natural language
processing (NLP) techniques to automatically recognize the textual entailment. Recognizing
Textual Entailment is a key task for many natural language processing (NLP) problems.

4. Argument Mining from Afaan Oromo Argumentative Texts using Deep Learning
Approach

Argumentation is the processes of producing and evaluating arguments based on context of a

discussion, dialogue or conversation. Argument component and relation classification
(predictions) are two main subtasks in argument mining. In this study, we design and implement
argument relation prediction for Afaan Oromo language using Deep learning approach. The
proposed system consists, Preprocessing, for removing extraneous data and make the data for
next component of learning algorithm. Text mining is a fundamental research area under natural
language processing that processes a vast amount of written texts to examine new patterns form
those texts.
