Jack Ma Yun is a Chinese business magnate, investor and philanthropist. Jack
Ma had humble beginnings he had various failures during his time in college
he failed the college entrance examination twice and his third try he still
failed but was allowed entry to the university due to the enrollment target of
the university for English majors was not met. After graduating he tried to
apply for different jobs 31 times but was rejected every time, he even tried to
apply for KFC but also been rejected. However, Jack Ma hasn't given up on
his dream and when the internet was first introduced, he saw an opportunity
and started his first company garnering more than 22 million dollars of net
worth Jack Ma became a successful businessman as the chairman of Alibaba
Group. In October 2020 Jack Ma stepped down from the board of Alibaba
Jack Ma and focused on philanthropy. Jack Ma's life became an inspiration for other
small businessmen in the world and also people who are struggling to find the
correct career path for them. His life served as an example that "Rejection is
not the end" but rather a beginning of something else that is more suitable for
you. Even though he got rejected many times both in school and as an
employee he still pursued to become successful in life and not only that, after
amassing wealth he stepped down in his position as a businessman and
started to focus on helping less fortunate people through his foundation and
as a philanthropist. This means that he didn't forget his humble beginnings
and began to serve as a blessing to other people. Personally, Jack Ma inspired
me to pursue my dream even though I myself faced countless failures and
wrong decisions. I am a transferee and shifted course once already I wasted a
year in my life due to a wrong decision of picking the correct course for
myself however that doesn’t mean that it is the end for me rather it is only a
beginning of another chapter in my life just like what happened to Jack Ma’s
life. One can say that Jack Ma is very unfortunate in the early stages of his
career but he never gave up even though he got rejected more than 30 times
he proved the quote “Try and try until you succeed”.
Henry Tan Chi Sieng Sy Sr, was a Filipino businessman and investor. A
Chinese Filipino who also came from humble beginnings his early life was
plagued with numerous migrations. At such a young age his father's shoe
shop was destroyed during the World War II his family returned to China and
Henry Sy decided to stay in the Philippines to finish his education and start a
business of his own. He worked as a store manager but later on started his
own store however it was very hard in the beginning, he sold various surplus
goods. He had difficulties in sourcing shoes locally and chose to import from
outside the country he started SM as SM Prime and later he opened SM
Quiapo the first department store that he opened. He also owns Banco de Oro
Henry Sy. Sr. the second largest bank in the Philippines. He also entrusted his children’s
various positions in his shopping malls and later went on to have 74 malls
nationwide. For eleven straight years Henry Sy Sr. was touted the richest man
in the Philippines with a net worth of 19 billion dollars. What we can learn
from his life is that even if we encounter unforeseen events that will devastate
us and our family, we must still continue to find ways to strive and provide.
Even though his family returned to China and he alone stayed here in the
Philippines he honed how to control his emotions even though he doesn't
have his family around him he focused on building his business empire he
had various problems within his business and to solve the problems one by
one accordingly. Later on, he entrusted various positions to his children
within the business. Even after his death what he made when he was alive
will ensure the financial future and capabilities of his family for the next
generations. In my opinion Henry Sy Sr. is a man of strong character and
every entrepreneur must follow his example because most of the entrepreneur
who encountered what he had to go through would have crumbled in the
process. If we encounter problems, we should find ways to make it livable.
The quote that I find most suitable for him is "Great success comes with great
sacrifice". In order to build a successful business or a successful career one
must be prepared to risk and sacrifice time, effort and the presence of your
family.
Colonel Harland David Sanders was an American businessman, the founder
of the fast-food restaurant chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC). Colonel
Sanders had a very rough childhood growing up without his father who died
during his youth. He had various different jobs in his early life, he worked as
an insurance salesman, as a gasoline station operator however he struggled in
staying employed until he was 65 years old, he began to franchise his chicken
secret recipe that he patented only using his $105 monthly social security
check. Today Kentucky Fried Chicken operates more than 5,200 restaurants
in the U.S. and more than 15,000 units around the world. He franchised his
fried chicken to different restaurants because KFC then still don't have a store
of its own, he pursued his passion of cooking chicken however in year 1964
he sold the business for $2 million and continued to collect a salary for his
work as the face of the brand. He was pressured by business predators into
selling his business to them and KFC went on to be a multimillion-dollar
Colonel Harland David business however when Colonel Sanders died in 1980, he was just worth $3.5
Sanders million. Today KFC is worth $8.5 billion. There are a lot of moral lessons we
can pick up from Colonel Sander's life he had his various ups and downs
during his life. His early life was plagued with problems, hardships and
failures. What we can learn from him is that it is never too late to have
success. The quote "Age doesn't matter" truly applies in his life at the age of
65 he started his journey towards success. However, that success could have
been more if he didn't lose to the pressure exerted by business predators who
bought his business. With a net worth of $3.5 million his death one might say
that he didn't have a bad entrepreneur journey however what he started went
on to be valued at $8.5 billion and is under the ownership of strangers and his
family didn't get anything from this. What he worked hard for during his later
years wasn't carried over to the next generation in his family one might say
that his success was short-lived. “The seeds that he sowed was harvested by
strangers.”. As an aspiring entrepreneur I learned a lot from his life and
business story. We should value our decisions and think about it carefully we
must consider the long-term effects of our decisions. His life was also
inspiring with him starting his success journey at age 65 it will inspire
millions of middle-aged to elderly people to have a fire ignited inside them to
start their own business and success for the sake of the future of the next
generation of their families.
