The teacher will ask the students if they are familiar with the word intellectual
disability. The teacher will then show pictures of different examples of people
with intellectual disabilities. Autism, down syndrome, fragile x syndrome, Prader-
Willi syndrome

According to IDEA, intellectual disability (formerly known as mental retardation)
is defined as significantly sub-average general intellectual functioning existing
concurrently with deficits in adaptive behavior manifested during the
developmental period that adversely affects a child’s educational performance.
