Overview
This article with provide information on Portal changes related to the release of
Prophet21 version 2017.1

The DESKTOP application does not require any changes to the element file format.
 SRD format is only required when using the WEB Application.

1. What do I need to know regarding creating new portals?
When creating a new portal, you will still be working with a .pbl file.
 However, when you are finished creating your pbl and you are ready to work
with it in P21, you will need to save it as a .srd file.  
File / Save As File  >>  Change the Save as Type:   Datawindow Source File
(*srd)

Maintenance features.
 
2. What do I need to do with my existing portal elements if I want to use

Portals in the Web Application?


The Right Mouse Button within Portal Maintenance has changed slightly.  
You will now see the option "Install and Maintain Portals" which consolidates
the individual RMB options.

Within the newly revised Portal Element Configuration" window, you will see
options:
  Install a Portal (SRD File)
  Install a Browser Element (URL) 

  Share Selected Portals

 Convert Portals to SRD Format

You will use the "Convert Portals to SRD Format" option to convert your .pbl
files to .srd.
NOTE:  If you do not see the "Convert Portals to SRD Format" option in this
window, you no longer have pbl files that need to be converted.
NOTE:  This option will allow you to convert all pbl files to srd format at the
same time.

3. How has "sharing" of portals changed?


Rather than sharing an entire library, you can select to share only selected
Portal Elements.
 
4. How would I send my Portal Element to P21 Software Support?

Within the Install and Maintain Portals (Portal Element Configuration) window
use the Share Selected Portals option and mail it to your support rep or attach to
your support case.
