PRE-DISCUSSION ACTIVITY
A Survey for Symmetries

Procedures:
1. Take a tour outside the room and look around the surroundings.

2. As you walk around, take a close-up picture of things that naturally exists in the place e.g., a

leaf, a flower, an insect such as butterfly, a bird, etc.

3. After the tour, observe the pictures. Make sure that each picture is large enough to be studied.

Is there any possible way in which you can fold the picture such that the parts of the objects in

the picture will become identical to each other? You may use the mirror as a help. Put the mirror

in the part where you desire to fold the photo.

4. Once you identified a way, use the pencils or pen and ruler to mark the line of symmetry.

5. Sort the pictures into two groups – one for those objects where there is symmetry and one for

those which don’t have.

Activity 1
Solving Symmetries
Name: Sai-na Suzane L. Velitario Course, Year and Section: AB ENGLISH-1B
Date Accomplished: August 27, 2022 Time Started: 5:30 P.M Time Finished: 6:40 P.M

Choose at least three pictures/objects (1 per types of symmetry) which exhibit

symmetries from your collections in the pre discussion activity. Study the reasons and benefits
of the occurrences of those symmetries in that objects/organism. Use the template below for
each of the object.

Name: TREE

Symmetry (Reflection): REFLECTION SYMMETRY

Reason/Benefits of Having the Symmetry:

 This pictured show as example of Reflection Symmetry, because each side

of the tree have same angle. The benefits of having this symmetry if you
divide it into two pieces you will see the reflection of side by side.

Name:SYNEDRELLA (Type of grass)

Symmetry: ROTATION SYMMETRY

Reason/Benefits of Having the Symmetry:

 This picture show as example of Rotation Symmetry, because as you can

see if you try to rotate each leaf you can be seen the same sizes of the
object. The benefits of having this symmetry you can easily defined the
similarites of each leaf using rotating motion.

Name: 3 LEAF CLOVER (Type of grass)

Symmetry (Rotational): TRANSLATIONAL SYMMETRY

Reason/Benefits of Having the Symmetry:

 This pictures show as example of Translational Symmetry, because as you

can see this object not changing shapes but reproducing a leaf clover each
stem of the grass and thats we called translation. The benefits of having
this symmetry you can easily defined the object because of their organism
they got generating day by day.
