COMPREHENSION
The Annual Boone County Extravaganza begins on Thursday, March 21, at noon. The tents
and attractions will fold on Monday, March 25, at six o’clock in the evening. The entrance fee of
$5 per person will include admission to all of the exhibits and the Boone Top and Boone Little
Top shows of the day.
The main attraction for the Boone Top is expected to be the Singing Soldiers from Sumter,
South Carolina. The ensemble consists of four men and three women, all retired from the United
States military. This will be the first time that they have performed at the Boone Top. One loyal
fan said, “They have perfected the art of singing, dancing, and storytelling. No other group can
captivate an audience like these seven can!” The Singing Soldiers will host shows at 3 o’clock
and 7 o’clock on Saturday, March 23.
For the first time ever the Extravaganza will welcome 350 exhibits. In years past the Creative
Candle Makers and Nifty Knitters have amazed crowds with their beautiful, handmade products.
As anticipated, these two exhibitors will be at the Extravaganza, as well as some newcomers like
the Perfect Pink Pigs and the Lollipop Ladies.
Children will enjoy the rides, face painting, clowns, balloon artists, storytellers, and live
theater shows each day. Below is a list of shows and times for all events in the Boone Little Top.
Martha Mulligan, the head of the Children’s Activities, had this to say about the fair, “This year
we spent a great deal of our budget on the younger fair-goers. The local theater companies have
donated their shows to give more children in the county the chance to attend. In all of the years
we have had the fair, we have never had such an offer. No doubt their shows will draw
record-breaking crowds and put a smile of the face of all children in attendance.”
A fair organizer explained that, “Security guards will be present at the fair, but we do not
think that there will be any trouble. The people of Boone County know how to host a
heartwarming event and the crowds are typically low-key and cooperative. We expect nothing
less this year! We’ll see you at the fair!”
