4 LANDING ON CLEAR AREA

4.1 NORMAL TWIN-ENGINE LANDING

Figure 11: Clear area normal AEO landing.

1. Landing Gear ...........................................................Extended, nose wheel locked,

2. ECS ..................................................................................................... As required,
3. Fly the approach to reach LDP,
4. Continue the approach while continuously reducing speed and thus bring the
aircraft above the landing area to enter hover at 8 ft,
5. In hover ................................................................. Collective pitch, reduce to land.

4.2 LANDING WITH AN ENGINE FAILURE

A landing is possible in the event of one engine failure at any point during the approach.
Landing is mandatory if engine failure occurs after the LDP.

Figure 12: Clear area OEI landing

Complete landing with the following procedure:

1. Nose wheel ..................................................................................................Locked,
2. OEI HI ........................................................................................................... Select,
After LDP:
3. IAS ................................................ Reduce to reach 30 kt at 50 ft above clear area,
NOTE
For headwind, increase IAS to keep at least 10 kt ground speed and adjust R/D to
keep same FPA.
At 50 ft:
4. Continuously reduce speed while reaching the landing area and keeping
the NR 100%,
Passing the clear area edge:
5. IAS .................................................... Reduce (nose up attitude +20° if necessary),
6. Collective pitch ............................................. Slowly increase to cancel sinking rate,
Just before touchdown:
7. Nose up attitude ............................................................................................≤ +10°,
8. Collective pitch ....................................................... Increase to cushion the landing,
After touch-down:
9. Collective pitch .....................................................................................Fully reduce,
10. Brakes ........................................................................................................... Apply,
11. Affected engine ENG # ............................. Apply relevant engine failure procedure.

4.3 ABORTED LANDING AND OEI CLIMB

Go-around to reach the takeoff trajectory corresponding to VTOSS is possible if engine
failure occurs at or before the LDP.

Figure 13: Clear area balked landing

1. Collective pitch .................................................. Increase to maintain NR  96%,

2. IAS ..........................................................................................................VTOSS,
NOTE
The VTOSS to be reached from LDP is at least the computed VTOSS (blue
line inside IAS scale). If this VTOSS is exceeded during
"Go around", maintain the stabilized IAS.
At VTOSS or as soon as OEI HI rating starts to flash:
(Once flight path is established)
3. OEI LO ...................................................................................................... Select,
4. Collective pitch ....................................................... Adjust to maintain NR 100%,
At 200 ft:
5. In level flight IAS increase to...........................................................................Vy,
At Vy or as soon as OEI LO rating starts to flash:
6. OEI CONT ................................................................................................ Select,
7. Collective pitch ....................................................... Adjust to maintain NR 100%,
8. At Vy, landing gear ............................................... Nose wheel unlocked, retract,
At 1000 ft:
9. Affected engine ENG # ......................... Apply relevant engine failure procedure.

4.4 LANDING PERFORMANCE

Throughout the “low altitude" flight envelope (refer to Figure 4), the MTOW and the
Max. Landing Weight (MLW) on clear area are 7800 kg.
Inside the “high altitude" flight envelope, the MLW is given by the Figure 14.

To use these Figures more in detail apply the following:

- Landing distance D6:
For density altitudes < 8000 ft; D6 = ............................................. . 200 m (656 ft)
For density altitudes > 8000 ft; D6 = ............................................. . 300 m (984 ft)

1. Determination of the maximum landing weight (MLW) on clear area:

 Maximum Landing Weight on clear area............................................... Figure 14,

2. Determination of distances (obstacle clearance):

V1 (IAS) = 40 kt. (LDP is defined by V1 and height 150 ft).
 Determine the weight index (Figure 54), then the Power index (Figure 55)
to enter Figures 56 to 61.
 Compute VTOSS (TAS) (Figure 65), from VTOSS chosen as follows:
(40 kt inside low altitude envelope and 50 kt inside high altitude envelope),
 Check that OEI performance is sufficient to clear any obstacles:
Distance D3 ......................................... Figures 56 to 61 (depending on VTOSS),
Distance D4 .......................................................................................... Figure 62,
From the weight index (Figure 54) and the Power index (Figure 63), then
Distance D5 .......................................................................................... Figure 64.
 Reduce the landing weight if necessary.
