those who lived in a land of deep darkness—on them light has shined.”

Crafters 2
The lack of daylight this time of year always bums me out. The other Prayer Shawl Ministry 2
night I commented to Sue, “What time is it, midnight?”… Turns out it was
only 5:30. Prayer Breakfast 2

So much about winter bothers me (the cold, the snow, the wind), but Christian Education 3

nothing more than the lack of light. I’m sure a big part of that is the Sunday School classes 3

From the Church Office 6
I recently read an article saying winter, with its causing us to want to pull
in and hibernate, is actually a gift for us to spend time doing some of the Moved? New Phone #? 6

I remember and give thanks

Men of Christ Church

Monday, January 9, 2023, Men of Christ Church will meet for dinner at 6 p.m. and a program that the leadership
team prays will be sufficiently satisfying to bring them back month after month. Bob Davis will serve as president
for the year, with the rest of the “Cabinet” re-elected: Bill Hovis, vice president; Herb Meininger, secretary; and
Ralph Gee, treasurer. All men of the church are invited to participate. First-timers may eat at the pleasure of the
group; after that, a donation of $10 per meeting is requested. Funds then are dedicated to various causes at the
discretion of the group.
For many years, under the direction of the late John Eier and then Tom Wynkoop, the men have gathered in
Wolff Hall a little before 6, checked in with the treasurer and with each other, and shared a meal often prepared
by one or more of the group and served by volunteers. After dinner, a devotional, a short business meeting and a
program often featured prominent people and organizations in service to both this church and the wider
community.
Bob and the group are open to ideas for projects, programs and provision of home-cooked meals. Please call or
text Bob at 717-315-7526 or email him: ScavengerFarmsUSA@yahoo.com. Messages also may be left at the
church office.

Crafters meet Thursday, January 5th from 10-3 down in room #1. Bring your lunch and
get ready to begin our new crafting adventures. In case of snow we will meet a week later on
January, 12th. ( 1-717-655-5559 -Patti ) Come join in on the fun!

Bookworms meet in the church library on January, 3rd at 12:30pm, Tuesday, to discuss
the book, The Final Wishes of Mr. Murray McBride. Bring your mug and snuggle up to some
warm conversations. Guests are always welcome. See you there. ( Colleen 1-301-730-6697)

Prayer Shawl Ministry: Knitters & Crocheters

Prayer Shawl Ministry, whose purpose is to knit/crochet prayer shawls from a simple pattern, is
taking a break until the fall. The shawls that they have created are given to those who are ill or
lonely and in need of both warmth and prayers.
If you know of someone who could use a prayer shawl, please contact Pastor Brian or Mary Fry.

Prayer Breakfast : Wednesdays at 8:30 AM

Prayer Breakfast meets on Wednesday mornings at 8:30 at the Parlor House
Restaurant. You can order breakfast from the menu. Following the meal, we
share in the Upper Room devotional for the day.

then Prayer Breakfast will not meet that day.

Education Moment: Angels

The appearance of angels in the Hebrew Scriptures didn’t necessarily conform
to the way we depict angels s in Christian Art and in our Christian pageants.
While the word angel in Greek means “messenger” in Hebrew, no single word
corresponds to the word angle. Instead, there is a rich and varied vocabulary
to describe these celestial beings. They are called “sons on God”, “heavenly
beings” and “hosts” and wear white robes.”. They don’t necessarily appear
with wings and wearing white robes.
They speak God’s words to prophets, redirect or direct someone’s action at a critical moment or act in
ways that offer protection for God’s people.

need your help. Don’t throw those old batteries, ink cartridges, or pull-tabs in the trash --- Bring
them to the church so they can be kept out of landfills and recycled.
Recycling containers are container is by the 2nd Street entrance to Frank Hall.
• Aluminum Cans Pull-Tabs: When we collect enough tabs, we them to the Ronald McDonald House in
Hershey. Contact: George Finney
• Batteries: Household batteries of all kinds can be recycled – even hearing aid batteries. They will be taken for
recycling. Contact: Bob Small

metal recycling within our community. We are continuing to recycle aluminum and steel cans within the
church --MUST BE CLEANED/RINSED. Contact: Bob Small

Susannah’s Pantry
People come to CUMC seeking immediate food help. We do not want to turn anyone away and we especially
want to meet them as Christ’s hands extended. We hand out groceries to community members in need that
come to the church. This is a faith-ministry ... as we give the food away to needy families, we trust God to supply
yet more! You can help by donating food. We hand out non-perishable, simple food
items, such as spaghetti sauce, spaghetti noodles, mac-n-cheese, canned ham/chicken
/tuna, beef stew or similar, chicken noodle soup, corn, green beans, fruit, peanut butter,
jelly, side dish (noodles or rice), crackers, granola bars or similar, cereal. We could use
chicken, ham, jelly, tomato soup, and cereal. Thank for your donations!
(Usually) Open: Monday – Thursday from 10 AM – 4 PM and Friday from 10 AM – 3 PM.

to God for someone in your life, past or present. We will acknowledge these honorariums and remembrances in
the Sunday bulletin and monthly newsletter. The 2023 Altar Flowers Chart is posted on the bulletin board
in the Second Street entrance (by Frank Hall). If you would like to present flowers in honor of or in memory of
a loved one, please check the chart to see what dates are available, then write your information on the chart.
You order the flowers from the florist of your choice. New to sponsoring flowers at CUMC: beside the chart,
