The Holy Scriptures

We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God; it is absolutely

true, enduring, and unchangeable (2 Timothy 3:16, 17. Matthew 24:35).

2 Timothy 3:16-17

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make
us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches
us to do what is right.(NLT)

God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.(NLT)

I. INSPIRATION FROM GOD

When people speak of the Bible as inspired, they are referring to the fact that God
divinely influenced the human authors of the Scriptures in such a way that what they
wrote was the very Word of God. In the context of the Scriptures, the word
“inspiration” simply means “God-breathed.” Inspiration means the Bible truly is the
Word of God and makes the Bible unique among all other books.

Another verse that deals with the inspiration of the Scriptures is 2 Peter 1:21. This
verse helps us to understand that even though God used men with their distinctive
personalities and writing styles, God divinely inspired the very words they wrote.
Jesus Himself confirmed the verbal plenary inspiration of the Scriptures when He
said, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not
come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth
disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means
disappear from the Law...” (Matthew 5:17-18). In these verses, Jesus is reinforcing the
accuracy of the Scriptures down to the smallest detail and the slightest punctuation
mark, because it is the very Word of God.
2 Peter 1:20
Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the
prophet's own understanding,(NLT) 2 Peter 1:21
or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they
spoke from God.(NLT)

Inspiration is the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit. He moves upon specially chosen
individuals who receive divine truth from Him and communicate that truth in written form, the
Bible. ( Encyclopedia of the Bible) IT is not revelation, not illumination nor human genius.

II. USEFUL FOR REFROOF AND CORRECTION

2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true
and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when
we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.(NLT)
According to Apostolic Church Dictionary refroof, is the refutation of error, the
discovery of sin, the convincing and convicting of the wrongdcer  MC
ARTHUR study bible defines refoof as rebuke for wrong doing behavior or wrong
believe. The Scripture exposes sin that can be dealt with through confesion and
repentance then it comes the word CORRECTION . This is the restoration of
something to its proper conditio an example of this is the life of David 2 samuel 12:1-
13
n And this is the role the scriptures in our lives.

III. TRAINING TO LIVE GOD’S WAY

Scripture provides positive training (uray iti kina ubbing ) in godly
behavior, not merely rebuke and correction of wrongdoing
1 Peter 2:1
So get rid of all evil behavior. Be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy,
and all unkind speech.(NLT) 1 Peter 2:2
Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will
grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment,
(NLT)

 Discipline Yourself for Godliness by

1.

Denying Your Nature

Disciplining yourself for godliness requires a willingness to go outside
of your comfort zone and to make a commitment to live a godly life.

2 Disciplining Yourself for Godliness

Begins in the Mind
Disciplining yourself for godliness begins in the mind. You must
set your mind to it. Before any outward actions, you must first
inwardly commit to pursuing godliness. This commitment
entails a willingness to labor for the purpose of godliness.

Creating New Habits

We have all developed habits that distract us from pursuing
godliness. Perhaps we spend too much time watching our
favorite tv show or surfing the net rather than spending time in
the word. Perhaps we are prone to busyness rather than
diligence. Perhaps we are more like Martha than Mary, always
running around preparing and rarely sitting at the Lord’s feet.
These are habits we must change.
