INCLUSIVE

EDUCATION
Definition
Inclusive education aims to mainstream students with
special needs in a flexible learning environment for
acquiring quality education that optimises their
potential for holistic development.

Inclusive education means different and diverse

students learning side by side in the same classroom.
They enjoy field trips and after-school activities
together. They participate in student government
together. And they attend the same sports meets and
plays.

IMPLEMENTATION FOR
INCLUSIVE EDUCATION
The Philippines has been working on implementing various programs and
initiatives to support inclusive education. One such initiative is the “Inclusive
Education for All” program, which provides training and support to teachers,
parents, and school administrators on how to best meet the needs of all
students.

The Philippines has been working towards inclusive education by training

teachers. The Department of Education (DepEd) has been working with the
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to
train teachers to include students with disabilities in their classrooms.

Advantage
Of Inclusive Education
1. Helps All Students Reach Their Full Potential

2. Creates a Culture of Acceptance and

Understanding
3. Builds Friendships and Bonds Between Classmates
4. Prepares Students for Life After School
5. Increased Self-Esteem and Confidence Among
Students
Disadvantage Of Inclusive
Education
1. Children with Disabilities may be Subjected to Bullying by
the Other Children as they may
Find it Difficult to Form Social
Relationships.
2. In an Inclusive Education System, Special Needs Students
Need Classroom Settings Adapted to Meet their Needs
3. Children with learning disabilities lag behind when
receiving instructions in an inclusive classroom.
4. The Situation of Inclusive Education Slows Down Normal
Students Who are not With Disabilities.
5. The Teachers are Overworked, and They May Not be Able
to Conduct the Class Properly.
The Importance of Inclusive
Education
Inclusive systems provide a better quality education for all children

and are instrumental in changing discriminatory attitudes. Schools

provide the context for a child’s first relationship with the world
outside their families, enabling the development of social
relationships and interactions. Respect and understanding grow
when students of diverse abilities and backgrounds play, socialize,
and learn together.
Education that excludes and segregates perpetuates discrimination
against traditionally marginalized groups. When education is more
inclusive, so are concepts of civic participation, employment, and
community life.
The Goal
The goal of the study is to determine the following gray area in

the inclusivity if education such as the following

1. The availability of the classroom, materials fit for the learners
with difficulties
2. The readiness of the government supporting the needs of
the learners with special needs
3. The readiness and availability of the teachers in doing the
task.
4. The availability of the curriculum fit for the learners un
inclusive modality

According to Mamlin (1999:36) inclusion is strongly

supported and advocated by several research groups and
professional organizations. As discussed in the previous
section it should, however, be noted that both parents and
teachers do have mixed reactions about inclusion.
