What did I do:
I have taken part in butterfly and moth conservation projects as well as working
alongside children who stay for school trips from inner city areas. Helping children lear
and understand where their food comes from.
Skills:
- Locating and directing where suitable areas are for new plugs to be planted for
conservation
- Resilience in working in poor weather conditions
- Working with and communicating with children
- communicating with conservation officers on conservation projects

Forest School teaching assistant


Kingskerswell Primary School
What did I do:
I have worked at a forest school with children aged 4-11. Tasks would vary for each
different age groups from orienteering to conservation and gardening. Most classes are
aimed to be child led but being there to explain or answer scientific questions that any
of the children may have.
Skills:
- Learning to communicate well with particularly young children
- Planning and setting up classes
- Demonstrating how to use tools carefully and appropriately
- Empathy and care are very important when with children who may be frustrated or
confused

Sharpham Estate
Totnes
What did I do:
Learned about how the farm has been re-willed and the reasons and methods used to create a
more biodiverse area. Also partaking in an identification and forage class.
Skills:
- Learning how to identify and understand the uses behind edible and medicinal plants
- Better learning the connections between species and the functions of ecosystems
