EM 507 – SYSTEM ANALYSIS

A. CONCEPTS AND TERMS USED IN SYSTEM ANALYSIS

SYSTEM- SUBSYSTEM, SUPRASYSTEM

SYSTEM – is a collection of entities or things which receives certain inputs and is

constrained to act upon them to produce certain outputs with the objective of maximizing
some functions of inputs and outputs.
- is an interrelated set of business procedures (or components) used within one business
unit, working together for some purpose.

Elements of a System:

The system exists within a larger world, an environment. A boundary separates the system from
its environment. The system takes input from outside, processes it, and sends the resulting
output back to its environment.
SUBSYSTEM – is a small system within the big system.
- is where work is processed on the system.

- It manage resources. It can run unique operations.

- is a single, predefined operating environment through which the system coordinates

the work flow and resource use. The system can contain several subsystems, all
operating independently of each other.

SUPRASYSTEM – is the largest system that includes both the system and its
subsystem.
- allows a hierarchical organization of a group of organizations that work together for
harmonious functioning and the achievement of a common goal.
- usually have direct influence on the activities that are executed in the systems that
lodge.

Main Characteristics of Suprasystem:

 The suprasystem or supersystem could be understood as the environment or means for
the operation of various systems.
 The suprasystems are divided into complex units that are integrated into it. However, all
these units are under your control since this is the main executor.
