Unit 3- Photographic Film and Papers

Pretest

Identification -Directions: On the spaces provided, write the correct answer.

Chloride paper1. A photographic paper with a slow speed emulsion containing silver chloride,
fine grain and produce deep blacks, and used for contact printing.
Emulsion layer2. A paper layer which contains minute silver halides suspended with gelatin
which needs only to reproduce the total range of negative.
Panchromatic 3. This film is most commonly used in investigative photography because it
produces the most natural recording of colors.
Non-chromatic 4. This film is used to copy black and white originals and to photograph
colorless subjects when extreme contrast is needed.
film speed 5. It is the sensitivity of the film emulsion to light, which is measured and expressed
in a numerical rating called ISO formerly known as ASA/DIN.
Chlorobromide papers 6. Emulsion speed lies between that of chloride and bromide papers,
used for both contact and projection printing.
Lightweight (LW) 7. A paper weight which intended for purposes which involve folding.
Negative or non-reversal film 8. This film yield either a negative or a positive image.
Emulsion layer 9. The light-sensitive part of a film or paper that records the picture.
Film 10. Transparent cellulose nitrate or cellulose acetate composition consisting of thin,
compact strips or sheets and coated with a light-sensitive emulsion for photography.

Learning Activities

Activity 1. Essay
Directions: Answer the following questions. Submit your output to the college by turning
in the link to the google class______________ on or before the reflected schedule. See Rubrics
in Written Outputs on page no.______.
1. Considering that you are a photographer, what kind of film according to color/spectral
sensitivity you need to utilize for you to see the unseen or things in dispute.
- the kind of film that I would utilize to see the things in dispute is the infrared films because with
this it enables me to see though beyond the human eyes sensitivity. It can penetrate haze
because of its long wavelengths. It helps me see small objects from afar or with high radiation.
2. Discuss the three sensitive layer of a color film.
- For color film, there's not one but three different light sensitive layers. Each of these layers on
a strip of color film gets sensitized when exposed to light of a particular color. These colors are
blue, green, and red in that order. Information in these three layers is composited to produce
one color image.
3. Explain the general rule on the granularity or graininess of the film?
- Film grain or granularity is the random optical texture of processed photographic film due to
the presence of small particles of a metallic silver, or dye clouds, developed from silver halide
that have received enough photons. While film grain is a function of such particles (or dye
clouds) it is not the same thing as such.

Assessment

Assuming that you are a photographer, what is the possible film speed that you need to use with
a dim crime scene? What kind of film suited on that situation when we consider the spectral
sensitivity? Why? Support your answer. Submit your output to the college by turning in the link
to the google class______________ on or before the reflected schedule. See Rubrics in Written
Outputs on page no.______.
- In a dim crime scene I would consider a higher ISO, to be used. For a dim area ISO -
400 for my captured picture to be clear and lighted. Considering the spectral sensitivity
to be used I would go with panchromatic because it provides and produces the most
natural recording of colors perfect to be applied with a higher ISOfor a clear
photographs.
