TITLE Blue Light Pedestrian Alert

Step Description Photo (optional)
1 Importance of Blue Lights

At Amazon, we utilize Power Industrialized Trucks (PIT) to perform standard work throughout our Fulfilment
Centers. Within the building, there may be multiple instances where PIT and pedestrians are required to share
work space. Amazon utilizes PIT blue lights to identify minimum mandatory safe distance between PIT & PIT
and PIT & Pedestrians that must be followed at all times to ensure the Safety of our associates and visitors.

2 What do Blue Lights indicate?

• The blue light on PIT equipment indicates 20 ft. of space between the blue light and other
interactions like racking, structures, pedestrians, and other PIT.

3 Where can you come in contact with Blue Lights?

• Inbound Receive Dock
• FC PIT Lanes
• FC Crosswalks
• Outbound Ship Dock/Transship Area
• Any other area with active PIT equipment

4 What to do when you approach a Blue Light?

• It is important that you pay close attention to the direction of travel when approaching the blue light
on any piece of PIT equipment. If direction of travel is coming towards you, slow down and utilize
verbal communication to alert driver of your presence and establish right of way.
• Under no circumstances should a pedestrian or PIT Operator come within the blue light distance of an
elevated PIT.
• No Pedestrian should enter within 8ft of active PIT.
• When approaching all designated crosswalks (green striped lanes) that pass through a PIT lane
(indicated by orange tape) pedestrians should always look both ways and down for blue lights
approaching or within the crosswalk area. Pedestrians should establish eye contact and verbally
communicate with approaching PIT prior to crossing. In Pit/Pedestrians interactions pedestrians always
have right of way unless verbally communicated.
• Pit/ Pedestrians interaction should be limited to green miles and designated PIT lanes in the FC.
Pedestrians should not perform standard work in wide aisles and/or any common work areas without
proper safety guardrails in place. PIT outside of designated areas (pedestrians areas) requires a spotter.
• Failure to comply with Amazon Pit Policies may lead to serious injuries or disciplinary action including
and up to termination of employment.
