HEAT TRANSFER LABORATORY SHEET

TITLE: CONCENTRIC TUBE HEAT EXCHANGER

OBJECTIVE
Demonstrate the effect of flow rate variation on the performance characteristics of a counter-
flow and parallel-flow concentric tube heat exchanger.

GENERAL PROCEDURE
1. Configure the experiment for counter-flow heat exchanger operation. Adjust the hot
water inlet temperature to the desired temperature.
2. Set the cold-water volumetric flow rate at constant to a constant value. Wait for a few
minutes until the reading temperatures become stable.
3. Initially set the hot water fluid volumetric flow rate to the lowest range value. Wait
for a few minutes until the reading temperatures become stable. Record all
temperature and repeat the step for higher hot water flow rates.
4. Repeat the experiment for parallel flow based on the above steps.
