This idea gave rise to the many educational reforms that the nation has since implemented. For
O
the past 20 years, the Philippine government has been reforming our educational system to raise
PE
the standard of our education. The advantages and disadvantages of such have been studied by
R
numerous institutions and organizations, but much more research needs to be done.
TY
Education is a tool for bettering an individual’s life. It is, without a doubt, the most crucial tool for
O
transforming one’s life. A child’s education begins at home. It’s a process that lasts a lifetime and
F
culminates in death. Education has a significant impact on the quality of a person’s life. Education
BE
enhances one’s knowledge, talents, and personality as well as attitude. Most importantly, education
has an impact on people’s employment prospects. A well-educated person has a better chance of
YO
There are numerous faults with our existing educational system that need to be addressed.
D
One of the primary difficulties in Philippine education is that HEIs produce an excessive number
BO
of graduates each year. There are too many graduates with little capacity for work, resulting in a
O
labor market with limited absorptive capacity. Another concern is the caliber of graduates. There
KS
is a mismatch between the graduates’ knowledge and skills and what the industry requires. Issues
like these have been addressed as part of several educational reforms, which aim not only to
PU
improve the country’s educational state but also to produce graduates who are locally and globally
BL
competitive.
IC
The educational reforms in the country particularly the K-12 Enhanced Basic Education
AT
Program rendered its effect on the country’s educational state. Counting the number of years
parents will spend on their children’s education means more labor, more effort, and more years of
IO
waiting before they see their children graduate from elementary school. A frequent Filipino parent
N
desires to be able to watch their children work for a living for a longer time. If this program is fully
implemented, Filipino basic education graduates will be extremely comparable and competent to
their Asian and global peers. Parents may contribute more to the school’s demands, but the result
negates all of the costs because graduates are globally competitive.
Okabe, M. (2013) states that lengthening secondary schooling by two years will help
decongest the curriculum. Content that had to be taught within 4 years will now be taught over
6 years. The “K to 12” Program also makes possible the seamless continuity of education from
kindergarten through elementary school to high school. Graduates will gain a high school diploma,
and they can also acquire a Certificate of Competencies or a National Certification showing that
they have acquired a mid-level of skill in their specialization when going on for higher education or
getting a job.
With the certificates senior high school graduates could obtain, they can now proceed either
to college or start their own business. With that, learners were given the chance to choose between
pursuing their careers or establishing their own business where they could generate their income.

The present curriculum does not just help us level with other competitive countries, it also upgraded
the produced graduates in the basic education for them to be college-ready.
The learning goal in the new “K to 12” curriculum is the acquisition of 21st-century skills, notably
(1) learning and innovation skills, (2) IT and media skills, (3) effective communication skills, and
(4) life and career skills (SEAMEO INNOTECH 2012). The aim is to bring about “holistically developed
Filipinos with 21st-century skills” who are ready for employment, have entrepreneurship, and
possess mid-level skills and higher education upon graduation from high school. Before the “K to 12”
Program, two curricula were in effect: the Basic Education Curriculum (BEC) 2002 and the Secondary
Education Curriculum (SEC) 2010. These two curricula are aimed at promoting functional literacy
and lifelong learning. With the new “K to 12” Program introduced in 2012, the aim is to promote
holistic skill development leading to employment and higher education. The keywords of the “K to
12” Program can be summed up as “preparation” for higher education, “eligibility” for entrance to
overseas tertiary educational institutes, and lawful “employability.” (Okabe, M. (2013). Where does
Philippine education go?: the” K to 12” program and reform of Philippine basic education.)
As society advances, graduates must be at all aspects eligible for the various in-demand careers
PR
in the present times. To conform with the changes taking place in society, graduates must be honed
O
and trained under various trends in education for them to cope with the advancements. Various
PE
21st-century skills are needed that cannot be acquired on the traditional curriculum or traditional
means of learning. For an instance, the integration of ICT in the teaching and learning process helps
R
in developing the media, information, and literacy skills within the learners. If we are to settle on the
TY
traditional curriculum and just be contented on the past programs in the educational sector, the
O
chance of letting our education system go down the hole is very high. With the various educational
F
reforms that are being implemented, the country was given the chance to upgrade not just the
BE
competence of the learners but also the quality of graduates. One downside being emphasized of
YO
the anti-K12 is the number of graduates. Many learners choose not to enroll in college because of
the long years they have spent on basic education. However, if we let this issue hold on to the goal
N
of the education system of our country, there could be a chance that we are to produce a bunch of
D
incompetent graduates. After all, we are chasing quality here and not quantity.
BO
Machines dominated almost all workplaces nowadays. It has become one of the most significant
O
tools inside the working environment. If we let our graduates finish without thorough training,
KS
employers might as well hire machines than pay numbers of incompetent employees.
PU
To respond to the demands and challenges of the twenty-first century, the Philippines has
recently undertaken educational reforms that transition and shift its 10-year basic education into
BL
a K-12 curriculum. Such initiatives, as stated in the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013, aim to
IC
expand students’ programs of learning, improve access to quality education, form individuals,
AT
who can contribute to the wider community, and boost the global competitiveness of the Filipino
workforce. (G Adarlo, L Jackson - Educating for the 21st Century, 2017)
IO
N
The growing need to address issues impacted by globalization, such as poverty alleviation,
sustainable development, and peaceful coexistence, resulted in a series of interconnected curricular
changes that emphasize a student-centered, culturally responsive, inclusive, and integrative
approach that is inclusive of all students. Although the impact of these educational reforms on the
cohort of students enrolled in the full K-12 system has yet to be determined, the curriculum guides
released by the Department of Education reflect how the younger generation of Filipinos is expected
to face the challenges of the twenty-first century in the Philippines.
The various reformations in the education system cannot be depleted nor degraded in the sense
that it aims to address the existing issues in the contemporary context. The different programs are
the products of researches and studies of those individuals who seek to alleviate the state of our
country in terms of education. If these reformations were ineffective, there should be a change
taking place. However, as observed, it continues to exist. Moreover, various developments are
being evident as well as innovations which in turn, help the country produce locally and globally
competitive individuals.

BE
After careful interpretation of gathered data, the findings of this study is as follows: 1) The perceived
competency of school head is high as indicated by the verbal interpretation of outstanding and very
YO
satisfactory; 2) The performance level of school heads is high as perceived both by the two group of
N
respondents; 3) The perceptions of the two groups of respondents as regards to school heads competency

there is a significant differences on their perceptions; and 6) It is found out that some of the perceived
competency of school heads affect significantly on their performance level.
PU
Based on the findings of this study, the following conclusions were derived:
BL
1) The hypothesis that there is no significant difference on the perceptions of the two groups of
IC
respondents on school heads competency is partially accepted since there are indicators on the school
AT
heads competency where the perceptions of the respondents are significantly different. 2) The hypothesis
IO
which state that there is no significant differences on the perceptions of the two group of respondents
N
on school heads performance level is partially accepted since there are variables on the school heads
performance level where the perceptions of the respondents are significantly different, and 3) On the
hypothesis that the perceived competency of school heads singly or in combination do not affect school
heads performance level is partially accepted since there are indicators of school heads competency
which statistically significantly affect performance level of school heads.
In the light of the findings and conclusions of this study, the following recommendations are hereby
given: 1) District Supervisors and Superintendents should motivate the school heads to attend educational
management training and seminar to improve school heads competency and performance; 2) Further
monitoring and evaluation of school heads competency and school performance must be conducted
to provide adequate technical assistance, seminar and training in school educational management; 3)
Upgrade and enhance the NCBS-SH variables which enrich the School Based Management by including
curriculum leadership; and 4) Further research studies are recommended along the areas of competency
and school performance using other variables which were not included in the present study.

ABSTRACT
Following the descriptive research design, the extent of the implementation of the guidelines,
rules and policies of the DepEd’s Child Protection Policy in the secondary school was assessed. This
study was conceptualized with the use of the theory of Behaviorist under Watson using the learning
principles to change behaviors.

This study hypothesized that there is no difference between the assessment of the teachers and
parents on the implementation of the Child Protection Policy. Result of t-test shows that the t-value of
1.049 has a probability value of 0.296 which is greater than 0.05 level. Thus, the hypothesis is accepted.
This study also theorized that there is no relationship between the assessment of teachers on
the implementation of Child Protection Policy and their select profile variables. Correlation analysis
yielded correlation coefficients whose associated probability values are lower than 0.05 level. As such,
the hypothesis is rejected.
Lastly, this study conjectured that the assessment of parents on the implementation of Child
Protection Policy is not significantly related to their select profile variables. Correlation analysis resulted
with correlation coefficient which associated probability values lower than 0.05, hence, the hypothesis
is rejected.

It observed that the teachers impose the traditional way of teaching approach. Teachers
primarily use three methods for the delivery of instruction (1) direct instruction - lecture format,
(2) individual instruction – seatwork, and (3) group work. While the content and anticipated
student outcomes drive the percentage of the delivery method used, effective teachers usually
implement it in their instructional design. Teachers can implement all three approaches to
discipline as well 1) provide content (intervention), 2) allow students to process content
(facilitate), 3) provide feedback (interact).
Teachers must assess the percentage of time allowed for each teaching method used in
their classroom as part of the learning environment assessment process. This assessment
alone may identify causes for disruptive behavior. Too much direct instruction impeded the
opportunities to clarify information and develop understanding. Too much-individualized
instruction restricts structured socialization and interaction - for this population.

ABSTRACT
PR
Behavior is the way in which one acts or conducts oneself, especially toward others. Each person
has different kinds of behavior depending on the factors around them. The researcher thinks that the
O
behavior of the grade 10 students during P.E. discussion is affected by their playing moods.
PE
Based on the observation in Mainit High School-Kapisahan Extension most of the hyper active students
R
TY
who are always in playing mood are male and influenced by their peers.
This study aims to determine the influence of playing mood towards the behavior of the students in
O
P.E. discussion and the effectivity of the principle of reward and punishment or logical consequences in
F
BE
Grade 10 students.
Thus, the study will reveal if the strategies applied are effective. It also aims to know what are the
YO
teaching styles and strategies that are effective in dealing with the students who are in playing moods.
N
Lastly, it desires to see if there are changes on the student’s behavior based on the teacher’s teaching
D
If the students fail to follow instructions of the teacher while having discussion they will lose the
O
chance to have physical activities outside which they don’t like that to happened. If they follow the rules
KS
or instruction they can have the activities outside which they like it very much. Stand firm on the rules,
PU
sacrifice the planned lesson for the day if necessary. These instructions are for them to have a conducive
learning and for them to become a students with good behavior while having discussion inside the
BL
classroom.
IC
In assuming that human behavior is learned, behaviorists also hold that all behaviors can also be
AT
unlearned, and replaced by new behaviors. That is when a behavior becomes unacceptable, it can be
IO
replaced by an acceptable one. A key element to this theory of learning is the rewarded response. The
N
desired response must be rewarded in order for learning to take place. (Parkay & Hass, 2000).
The result of the strategy is very effective. It was a success seeing the student’s changed their behavior.
They listen when the teacher discuss, raise their right hand if they have questions or ideas, no one answers
in chorus, sits down properly, no transferring of seats, form their line properly and silently in going outside
and going inside the classroom. My students in Grade 10 are now able to follow instructions and I only
have a very least problem when it comes to classroom management.
There are appropriate disciplinary actions or teaching strategies depending on the types of students.
My strategy in Grade 10 students might not be effective in other grade levels. It is important to know
your student’s behavior and attitude before formulating a teaching or disciplinary strategy so that it will
be effective. I recommend this strategy for all the teachers to continue and improve the strategy. This
strategy is very effective in classroom management if it will be used properly and wisely. It helps me a lot
on my seven years of journey in teaching students in Mainit High School-Kapisahan Extension which is
located in Brgy. Mainit, Iligan City, Lanao del Norte, Philippines, 9200.

ABSTRACT
The study aimed to determine the training needs and the coping mechanisms of the Technology and

Livelihood Education (TLE) teachers to come up with a training design suited to their needs.
O
There were 60 junior and senior teacher-respondents, mostly female from the different national high
PE
Data were gathered through normative-survey with a questionnaire checklist as the main data

researcher. The normative survey method used statistics and values considered normal for the group
F
surveyed to understand and collect data on a specific subject. All the information gathered were
BE
compared to the social norms for the group surveyed and tested. This determined the training needs
YO
of the TLE teachers and their competencies in instructional skills and professional knowledge. Likewise,
it looked into the preferred strategies of teacher-respondents in teaching TLE. The data gathered were
N
tabulated, analyzed and interpreted using the Likert Scale, frequency count, percentage, rank, mean,
D
standard deviation, T-test, chi-square and Kendall’s tau-b. The results of the analysis were the bases
BO
in the formulation of the summary of findings, conclusions, recommendations and the development of
O
training designs.
KS
From the findings, the following were disclosed. Most survey respondents were 30 to 34-year-old
married women and most of them do not have education degrees. The study indicated that most
PU
teachers have Master’s degree units and are Teachers III and II. Home Economics area is mostly taught
BL
Most teachers have attended Home Economics seminar, specifically, Front Office Services and Agri-
AT
Fisfery Arts seminar on Agricultural Crops Production, Organic Agriculture, and Pest Management but
IO
just two have attended an Industrial Arts lecture. One teacher-respondent attended an ICT seminar on
Computer Systems Servicing.
N
The study found out that teachers are knowledgeable about resource people, written resources, and
graphic materials. The study revealed that teachers are skilled with visual, audio, and other tools and are
proficient in inductive, deductive, inquiry, and modelling tactics and methodologies. They are particularly
good at routinizing things.
The survey indicated that teachers are quite proficient with Form Completion and Plan Preparation.
Conversely, teachers are competent in teaching Home Economics, Industrial arts and ICT and are
moderately skilled in Agri-fishery Arts.
Furthermore, teachers are very skilled at creating formal evaluations, can create informal, anecdotal,
and cumulative records. Most of them prioritized ICT training and that laboratory is the preferred teaching
method.
Most respondents preferred one-month training, according to the study and that teachers had a “high
degree” of coping mechanisms for professional development and classroom management.
The survey discovered a considerable discrepancy between respondents’ service lengths and current

positions. Specializations and teaching loads are closely correlated. Finally, teachers’ coping mechanisms
for instructional tactics and professional development are linked.
In the light of the foregoing results of the study, it can be concluded that majority of the teachers
are young with mean age of 37.9, female dominated with 75 percent, most of them are married with 70
percent, graduate of different bachelor’s degree other than education with 50 percent and specialized
in other field aside from the 4 areas of TLE with 45 percent, and with an average length of service of 8.13.
In terms of using instructional materials, teachers are competent in terms of inviting resource persons,
printed materials, and graphic materials. The study also revealed that the teachers are competent in
terms of pictorial materials and audio-visual, and miscellaneous resources. They are also competent
across all areas namely: Inductive, Deductive, Inquiry method, and Modelling procedure. In terms
of routinizing activities, the study found out that they are very competent. Also, the teachers are very
competent along Accomplishment of forms, and Preparation of plans.
In terms of evaluation and testing tools, teachers were seen to be very competent in devising formal
evaluations. On the other hand, the teachers are competent in concocting informal, anecdotal and
cumulative records. The study highlighted that training needs and priorities of the TLE teachers heavily

teaching knowledge, pedagogy and techniques they have in handling their subjects moving

preparation of teachers in the bachelor’s degree is not aligned to teacher education.
6. Community should offer an avenue for the learners to practice the skills acquired from the teacher
to be ready in the field of work.
7. Parents should provide full support to the advocacy of the department and proper guidance should
be employed to ensure proper outlook of education for the learners. They should join trainings/
seminars so that they can cope with the new normal situation.
8. Learners must take advantage on the preparation of the teachers, for they-being the end-products
of education. The preparation of the teachers speaks of everything of how well the learners would
become.
9. The Researchers would become instruments of change if they would put into practice all the
competence and skills they developed in the trainings. Technically, they would turn learners into
better persons who would make a difference.

education is more possible. Thus, when the learner can directly ask the teacher what he/she

The researcher believes that in this new normal, both modalities of learning have significance.
Blended Learning and face to face Learning must continue, must be enhanced and must
be supported by all stakeholders. The issues, conflict and problems that have encountered

variables of the population under study.
Based on the findings, the researcher was encouraged and motivated to design an
intervention Plan to address the factors affecting the academic performance of Grade 7 learners
by all Grade 7 Araling Panlipunan teachers in Junior High School.
The academic performance of Grade 7 Araling Panlipunan learners was recorded as
satisfactory and need an intervention by both parents and teachers for better achievement. The
academic performance of grade 7 Araling Panlipunan learners was affected by foregoing factors.
There is a moderate positive correlation significant difference between academic performance
and Personal factor, Teacher Factor, School Factor, and Environmental Factor. An intervention
plan is proposed to guide both the school and parents in improving the scholastic performance
of their children and school outcomes. The school heads and teachers concur that the proposed
Action Plan can be used and adopted by the respective schools in the Division of Quezon City.

Rationale
The action research entitled “ Parents Involvement In Teaching Reading Among Grade Two Pupils Of
PR
Alangilan Central Elementary School On Modular Distance Learning” was conducted to find out the reading
skills of the pupils through reading simple words, phrasvves, sentences, short paragraph/ stories poems and

This study used 32 Grade 2 - Anahaw Pupils of Alangilan Central Elementary School as respondents. Self-

N
Reading at the second grade level encourages phonemic awareness or understanding the sounds and

syllables that make up words, into phrases, sentences, paragraph and stories.
BO
It’s harder than we imagined to teach second graders. It is one of the most challenging responsibilities
that instructors must do, especially during current pandemic. There was no quick way to do this. This needs a
O
lot of practice and must follow a process. The teacher must be knowledgeable on how to instruct the subject.

According on the study’s findings, the researcher draws the following conclusions:
N
1.Reading from simple to complicated words is necessary. 2.It is mandatory to read Dolch Basic Sight Words
before answering any module. 3.Practice reading short paragraphs, stories, rhymes, poetry, melodies, and
riddles with comprehension. 4.The students’ language skills improved as a result of the use of intervention
activities. 5.Students benefit greatly from their parents’ engagement in their reading comprehension and skills.
Research Limitations
Through reading activities at the Alangilan Central Elementary School, this study seeks to understand the
reading abilities of 32 students in Grade 2. The study’s findings may increase parents’ involvement in meeting
their children’s needs and strengthen their partnership with the school in assisting students in achieving good
academic performance, particularly during this pandemic. The study only looks at reading activities as a
paradigm for comprehension-based reading instruction.
Originality
This study aims to raise the reading proficiency of second-grade students at Alangilan Central Elementary
School by using reading exercises for modular distance learning during a pandemic time.

teachers is interpreted as very satisfactory. The teachers often employ disciplinary approaches.
Based on the findings, it was concluded that sex and civil status are not predictors of the level of
BL
teaching competencies of the respondents. However, professional and personal skill are higher for
IC
older teachers with better educational attainments, length of service and position title. Likewise, better
AT
instructional skills were found for teachers who are longer in the service. Classroom management skills
IO
vary with the educational attainment and seminars and training attended. Lastly, higher level of guidance
skills was found to teachers with more advanced educational attainment, position title and seminars
N
and training attended. Disciplinary approaches used by the teachers do not vary with age, sex, civil
status, educational attainment and seminars and training attended. Focusing and direct instruction are
more often used by the younger set of teachers. Also, direct instruction was used by the Teacher 1 more
frequently. The perceived performance of the pupils in terms of academic performance and attitude and
behavior are positively related to the perception of the teachers on their teaching competencies and
disciplinary approaches. Academic performance do not depend on the guidance skills and focusing as
a disciplinary approach of the pupils.
In the light of the findings, the following recommendations are hereby offered. Teachers should
continuously employ varied teaching styles and disciplinary approaches in the classroom for better
classroom management and pupils’ performance. Teachers should attend seminars and trainings to
update the teaching strategies and methodologies. Experimental studies on the effects of teaching
disciplinary approaches on pupils’ performance may be conducted. The proposed action plan is
recommended for implementation.
