Question 1: (10 Marks)
A pressure gauge which can be modeled as a Linear Time-Invariant (LTI) system has a time
response to a unit impulse input h(t) given by (1 + 𝑒𝑒 −𝑡𝑡 − 6𝑡𝑡𝑒𝑒 −𝑡𝑡 )𝑢𝑢(𝑡𝑡). For a certain unknown
input, the output y(t) is observed to be (2 − 2𝑒𝑒 −𝑡𝑡 + 𝑡𝑡𝑒𝑒 −𝑡𝑡 )𝑢𝑢(𝑡𝑡). For this observed measurement,
derive the true pressure input x(t) to the gauge as a function of time. Assume that the input
signal is right-sided.

Question 2: (10 Marks)

A causal Linear Time-Invariant (LTI) system with impulse response has the following
properties:
1
When the input to the systems is 𝑥𝑥(𝑡𝑡) = 𝑒𝑒 2𝑡𝑡 for all t, the output is 𝑦𝑦(𝑡𝑡) = 6 𝑒𝑒 2𝑡𝑡 for all t.

The impulse response h(t) satisfies the differential equation

𝑑𝑑ℎ(𝑡𝑡)
+ 2ℎ(𝑡𝑡) = 𝑒𝑒 −4𝑡𝑡 𝑢𝑢(𝑡𝑡) + 𝑏𝑏𝑏𝑏(𝑡𝑡)
𝑑𝑑𝑑𝑑

where b is an unknown constant.

Determine the constant b and the Laplace transform, H(s) of the impulse response of the system
based on the information given above.

Question 3: (10 Marks)

Figure 1 shows a basic RL circuit. Given vin(t) = 6 u(t), iL1(0-) = 6 A and iL2(0-) = 0 A.
By using Laplace Transform method, derive the expression of i1(t).
