“ Globalization as double edged sword, it cuts both ways – positive and negative effects.”

Globalization is the continuous progress and development, right? It aims is the

continuous mobility or a growing interdependence of the world’s economies, cultures, and
population that can bring us goods and services, technologies, flow of investments, information
and many more. But just like any other things in this world, all good things have their
corresponding bad effects also - that includes “Globalization”.

Globalization can cause bad effects, this includes individualism – which means being
self-centered person and do not think other’s welfare. It can also cause various serious threats
such as energy insecurity, environmental destruction and military conflicts that cause war(s).

We all know that a “war” is characterized by extreme violence, destruction, mortality

using military forces. We can also consider it as the effect of an intense armed conflict between
states governments, societies, or paramilitary groups such as mercenaries, insurgents, and
militias.

As we looked back in the year 1939 to 1945, we are all aware that we experienced the
deadliest international conflict in history which was the World War II. We consider it as the
deadliest, because we talked about not only hundreds, not only thousands, but million millions of
people died in such event including the death of Jews, Nazis, millions of Military and worst was
millions of civilians.

In my own understanding, World War II started when World War I ended and Adolf
Hitler was appointed as the German Leader. Just like the characteristics of globalization, Hitler
has the attitude of being discontented and wanted a continuous and progressive power. He was
obsessed with the idea of the superiority of the German race and also believed that war was the
only way to gain the necessary living space, for the German race to expand. World War II began
when Germany invaded Poland inciting Poland’s allies Britain and France to declare war on
Germany. Then afterwards, Soviet Union also invaded Poland, and Warsaw surrendered to
German troops. United Kingdom won on first sea battle on year 1939 then after that, Norway
invaded by Germany which called as the “Phony War” on year 1940. Afterwards, Winston
Churchill replaced Neville Chamberlain as the British Prime Minister which the same day when
Germany invaded Belgium and Paris falls to Nazis also. Britain fought for their life as the Britain
pits German bombers against British fighters in a thwarted German prelude to invasion. Japan
attacked Pearl Harbor on 1941 that made the United States plunged into a war, and the rest was
history. World War II ended when Truman announced that Japan surrendered and the news
spread quickly and celebrations erupted across the United States.

As I studied on what happened on World War II, I conclude that aside from globalization
was present already way back then, we can say that globalization is a double-edged sword, it
cuts both ways – which means it has both positive and negative effects. Also, we can consider it
as a liquid or fluid-like which spreads easily, flows easily from places to places. The knowledge,
ideas, and the learnings I earned in studying WWII is, it gives me the impact that if maybe
WWII was never happened or not existed if peaceful agreement applied, maybe many people
will survive, and most of them contributed in our history.

Well, that’s beyond our past. Now, in our present times or future rather, I dreamed of
globalization only took the better or positive side so that our continuous progress and mobility
will result to positive only outcome also.
