Business education is a branch of education that involves teaching the skills and
operations of the business industry. This field of education occurs at multiple levels,
including secondary and higher education institutes. Education in business has many
forms, mainly occurring within a classroom of a school. Internships are also another way
to receive this type of education. A business education has many components, as there
are many different areas of the business industry as a whole. An education in business
varies greatly in its curriculum and popularity around the world. Career development is
often an integral part of an education in business.

Secondary education[edit]
Main article: Business studies
At secondary level, Business Studies, as it is often called, typically combines elements
of accountancy, finance, marketing, organizational studies, human resource
management and economics.[1] The range of topics is designed to give the student a
general overview of the various elements of running a business.
Business is taught as an academic subject at high school level in many countries,
including: Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, Hong
Kong, India, Ireland, Lesotho, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Nigeria, South Africa, Sri
Lanka, Zimbabwe, Argentina, Sweden, Tanzania, Malaysia and the United Kingdom.
Many school systems (additionally) examine accounting and economics as separate
subjects; these offering a more technical orientation than the course in general
business. Business mathematics may be included under business studies, or as a part
of the mathematics syllabus.

At the university level, students have the opportunity to take undergraduate degrees,

usually a bachelor's degree, in business and management. Specific curricula and
degree-granting procedures differ by program and by region. In general though, the
program will comprise either preparation for management and general business, or a
detailed - more academic - focus on a specific area. Regardless, all will typically include
basic selections such as Accounting, Marketing, Finance, Operations Management,
and Economics for business. Examples of these concentrations and some topics they
typically cover[2] are aside.
Management-directed programs[3] are designed to give a broad knowledge of the
functional areas of a company, and their interconnection, and also to develop the
student's practical managerial skills, communication skills and business decision-
making capability. These programs thus incorporate training and practical experience, in
the form of case projects, presentations, internships, industrial visits, and interaction
with experts from the industry.
Subject specific programs, on the other hand, focus on a particular area, and are often
more weighted towards theory. Even in these cases, however, additional to their major,
students are exposed to general business principles, taking initial courses in
accounting/finance, human resources, statistics, marketing, economics, and information
systems. Re “tagged degrees” however, see below.
Degrees offered here include:

 The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree is

awarded to students who complete three to four years of
full-time study in business administration. The degree
often, though not always, requires a major in a specific field
such as accounting, finance, HRM/personnel,
marketing, management, management information
systems, real estate, strategic management, or others.
Similar programs include the Bachelor of Science in
Business Administration (BSBA), a quantitative variant on
the BBA, Bachelor of Science in Business and Bachelor of
Administrative Studies degrees. The Bachelor of Public
Administration (BPA) is an undergraduate degree in public
administration. The Bachelor of Business
Management/Bachelor of Management Studies are similar
to the BBA, but with a stronger emphasis on leadership and
management skills.
 The Bachelor of International Business Economics (BIBE)
degree is awarded to students who complete four years of
full-time study in business administration. In the last 2
years students must choose a specific field (such as the
ones mentioned in the BBA). This degree is taught only in
English and its aim is to enable students to work abroad
and be prepared to manage large, multinational firms. It is
compulsory to study abroad for at least 6 months. This
degree appeared with the Bologna Process in Europe and
is taught in universities like the Pompeu Fabra University.
 The Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com, or B.Comm; Bachelor
of Commerce and Administration (BCA) is an alternate title)
is, likewise, an undergraduate degree in general business
management, although it is more theory-based and usually
incorporates an academic major. The distinction between
the B.Comm and the BBA, then, is often that the latter
specifically applies theories to real-life business situations,
while the former concentrates more broadly on a wide
range of ideas and concepts in commerce and related
subjects.[4]
 The Bachelor of Business (B.Bus or B.Bus (Major)) degree
is an undergraduate degree in general business
management offered by universities in Australia, Ireland
and New Zealand. Similar in nature to the Bachelor of
Commerce degree, Bachelor of Business degrees are often
awarded at technology-focused universities in accordance
with the Dawkins review (1986) of the Australian higher
education sector. At many Australian universities, a
Bachelor of Business degree enables graduates to
undertake greater specialty in their chosen academic major
as compared to a general BBA degree.
 The Bachelor of Management and Organizational
Studies degree (BMOS in Canada) is a four-year
undergraduate degree in business management. However,
this degree teaches knowledge-based business and is as
much theoretical as it is case-based. The BMOS degree
especially emphasizes social sciences such as psychology,
sociology, economics, etc.
 The Bachelor of Business Science (B.Bus.Sc) degree is
similar to the BCom. However, it is a four-year honors-level
course with an increased focus on the major and
covers management theory in further depth. Also, students
taking this approach are able to major in various
quantitative disciplines not (typically) available in the
B.Comm or BBA; related to this—and similarly in distinction
—all B.Bus.Sc students require a full first-
year mathematics course, and in addition to this, courses in
statistics.
 The Bachelor of Accountancy (B.Acy or B.Acc or B. Accty)
degree is a specialized degree in accountancy; it is often
the principal (or only) undergraduate degree recognized for
later professional practice. It is distinct from a BBA or
B.Comm with a major in accountancy in that the entire
program is focused on accountancy, while other topics are
supplementary. It is also known as Bachelor of Accounting,
Bachelor of Accounting Science, or Bachelor of
Comptrolling (B.Acc.Sci or B.Compt).
 The Bachelor of Economics (B.Ec, B.Econ, B.Econ.Sc)
degree is similarly a specialized degree in the field of
economics. Courses may last anywhere from three years to
six years and are similarly
more theoretical and mathematical than the general BBA or
B.Comm with a major in economics (often substantially so).
Economics is not a business discipline per se but a social
science, and in the US economics degrees are therefore
offered through liberal arts colleges. A specialized program
is often available within other degrees, such as the
BA(Econ), B.Sc(Econ), B.Soc.Sc(Econ), B.Com(Econ) or
BBA(Econ).
 There are various other specialized business degrees such
as the Bachelor of Finance and Banking. A further example
is the Bachelor of Arts in Organizational
Management (BAOM) degree, which is awarded to
students who complete a four-year course of study in the
field. The core functions of this program are the teaching of
organizational functions, communication, group behavior,
decision-making, human resources management, ethics,
and to develop and deploy in the students effective skills in
management and leadership. Also offered are the Bachelor
of Science in Business Education (BSBE), an
undergraduate degree in the teaching of business and
the Bachelor of Business Teacher Education (BBTE), a
variant on the BSBE.
 Similar are the discipline-specific tagged degrees, such as
the BS / BA in Finance, [5] or in Marketing, [6] or in Human
Resources. [7] Here a high percentage of the coursework
focuses on the specialization, analogous to the B.Econ
above; note that the distribution requirements may similarly
be those of the general Arts or Sciences program, as
opposed to business oriented.

Postgraduate education[edit]
At the graduate school level, students seek a variety of master's degrees, either
in general management–very commonly the MBA–or in a specific area, such as
marketing or finance. A further distinction is that students pursuing postgraduate
degrees often have some business experience, although this is not always a program
requirement.
Corresponding to both of these, graduate degrees in business and management are
generally of two types:

 On the one hand, programs such as the Master of Science

(M.Sc) or Arts (MA) or Commerce (M.Com) in General
Management (sometimes also called Master in
Management, or MIM) usually do not require professional
experience. (Often the M.Sc in Management is for
graduates with a first academic degree in a social science,
while the MA in Management is for other backgrounds. The
Master of Engineering Management, MEM, is aimed at
graduates with an engineering background.)
 On the other hand, the Master of Business
Administration (MBA) requires a minimum of two to three
years of professional experience and is open for graduates
from any field.
A related distinction: the M.Sc in Management is more specialized than an MBA, and is
more suited for academic research, while the MBA is more industry- and management-
focused.
As regards degree structure, postgraduate business programs are, in general, designed
such that students gain exposure to theory and practice alike; [8] the mix, though, will
differ by degree and by school,[9] as discussed. Learning is through lectures, case
studies, and often team projects (“syndicate” work). The theory is covered in the
classroom setting by academic faculty. Particularly in the MBA, the theory is then
reinforced, and revisited, also in the classroom setting, through the case method,
placing the student in the role of the decision maker, "complete with the constraints and
incomplete information found in real business issues." Practical learning often
comprises consulting projects with real clients, or at least addressing an actual case,
and is often undertaken in teams. The practical elements (as well as the case studies)
may involve external practitioners, and sometimes executives, supporting the teaching
from academic faculty. (See Business school#Use of case studies and #Other
approaches.) One of the challenges for business academics is demonstrating that their
curriculum is relevant to those who want to become managers. [10]

 Green MBA, often offered as a "Master in Sustainable
Business" (MSB)

Doctoral[edit]
At the doctoral level, all degrees offered are research focused, although they do differ
as regards their relative weightings of theory versus practice. Typically, the DBA, DPA,
DHA and D.Mgt emphasize managerial practice alongside research; relatedly, the
theses for these degrees will often focus on applied research. The other doctorates here
are (exclusively) theory and research based. Entrance is usually on the basis of a
relevant master's degree, and for practice-weighted degrees, relevant managerial
experience. For the topic areas applicable to the thesis component see: List of fields of
doctoral studies in the United States § Business management/administration. Degrees
offered here include:

 Doctor of Business Administration (DBA)

 Doctor of Commerce (D.Com)
 Doctor of Health Administration (D.H.A.)
 Doctor of Management (D.M., D.Mgt)
 Doctor of Public Administration (DPA)
 PhD in Management (Ph.D)
 Ph.D/M.B.A (double degree)

involving a management thesis and taught MBA courses in
the UK
 Doctor of Education (EdD), A professional doctorate with
concentrations in business and education, including
Management, Marketing, Accounting, International
Business[11]

Internships[edit]
An internship is when a person works for a company for a temporary amount of time,
typically for a few weeks over the summer or winter. By participating in the program, a
student will be able to act in the everyday operation of the industry. They give the
participants real-world experience in their desired career. Internships also give the
company it is at an idea of whether or not the participant would be a good fit as a full-
time employee. Many people complete internships while they are in school, whether that
be secondary or post-secondary education. These are very common, and have started
to be a requirement, in finding a job in the business world.  Although internships are by
no means a new form of educating a student, the amount that have completed a
program has only continued to grow. In 2008 about one out of every two graduating
college students had included a completed internship in their job applications. [12]
There is significant evidence that has indicated that completing and internship develops
skills essential to success in the business world as well as everyday life. The skills that
are mainly developed while participating in an internship program includes interpersonal
and social skills, as well as quantitative or other technical skills. Many internships use
group projects as well in order to develop teamwork and leadership skills. All of these
skills are vital to a business and are difficult to be taught in a class room. These skills
are very valuable to a company and the ability to train these skills is making internships
extremely valuable in business.[12]

Career Development[edit]
Many programs within a business education have a main focus on the career
development of their students or audience. They want to prepare them for entering the
labor market and ensure they possess the best knowledge and skills of the industry
possible. The aid in these programs can range from the guidance in career choices to
solidifying a student's first full-time job.[13] The idea of curriculum is typically integrated
straight in to the curriculum of one's business education. This allows the students to
focus on both at the same time while also understanding the importance of thinking of
their life after school has on their life. Additionally, it allows students to think more about
their goals and interests to determine if their current path of academics is what they
wish to continue. Many faculty members will typically reach out to students and attempt
to connect to graduates. This connects the current students with alumni in their field,
allowing them to hear from people in their career path who were in their place not too
long ago. This information lets students understand what is necessary to do in order to
succeed in their desired career.[13] There are instances however, where the effort of
career development while still obtaining a degree does not yield a desire result.
Research of business undergraduates state that only about 60% obtain a full-time job
by graduation and of that percentage, only 40% have one that is consistent with their
major.[14]

MEANING OF BUSINESS EDUCATION
Posted on June 15, 2017

ORIGIN OF BUSINESS EDUCATION

The earliest form of Business Education according to Osuala, Popham (1975)

and Njoku (1990) as well as most authors was the apprenticeship training. At
that time an individual had to learn a trade under another person who had the
skill for the trade, or who was experienced in a particular area. These were
craft, bookkeeping, farming, and sales, etc. The period of training varied from
one trade to another. Sometimes the length of time was based on how fast the
apprentice could learn the skill.

For instance, sole traders were able to take apprentices to assist in the sale of
wears through the learning of how it was done. Today, this type of skill is
carried and acquired through apprenticeship training. As time passed the
apprentice became free and was either a salesman or bookkeeper. In some
cases the apprentice paid for the period of training but where it was not
possible, the family of the apprentice was required to mortgage land or any
valuable property.

At the end of the training it was an option put forward to the apprentice
whether to remain with his master and be paid a token sum, which may be
complimented with material items. The second option was that of the freed –
apprentice to establish his own business and have his own business and have
his own apprentice. If the first option was chosen, the master was obliged to
feed him and provide him with routine help. In all he was still responsible to
the master and must operate within the rules stated by his master. I tell you
one thing that made the training very striking and worth emulating but which
we lack in our society today, was that the apprentice must be worthy in
character and learning.

You all will agree with me that today, the issue of character and learning has
been jettisoned, especially that of character. There were certain skills which
some families endowed with, but which they did not want to share with
outsiders. All these took place in a non- formal setting.

As time went on, businesses started growing, Popham (1975) stated that
more people were needed in businesses and the idea of restricting the
training to certain places was not achieving much and itinerant tutors started
travelling around the country (USA) giving instruction in book keeping and
penmanship. People started appreciating the need for business skills and
grammar schools started including book keeping, penmanship and
commercial arithmetic in their curricula as a result of demands for commercial
training. This gave Business Education a place in the formal setting.

Business Education in Nigeria

Business Education in Nigeria has its origin in private business schools or

commercial schools some of which were recognized or “approved” by
Government. By “approval” it meant that a school could present students for
the West African Schools Certificate Examinations. Also it meant then that the
students who dropped out in class four could gain employment as clerical
assistants.

However, the earliest type of business training in colonial Nigeria was done
on-the-job after primary or secondary education. It was believed that after
secondary education a worker could be trained on the job to acquire skills in
office occupation, except in typewriting and shorthand aspects of secretarial
occupations. As a result, graduates of secondary schools were automatically
employed into clerical positions on application and interviewing. In some
cases primary school graduates and some secondary school dropouts were
employed for office jobs.

As the need for typewriting and shorthand increased, private schools were
established to teach these two subjects. These schools were known as
commercial schools. They provided typists and stenographers for the civil
service and the private business organizations in the country. The school
actually prepared candidates for the Royal Society of Arts (R.S.A)
examinations. Successful candidates of these examinations were thus
employed by Government and businesses. The employees were mainly
typists and stenographers. Since these groups of workers benefited most from
the commercial training schools, many small private institutes were
established to teach only typewriting and shorthand. As a result of this,
Business Education in Nigeria was conceived as training in shorthand and
typewriting.

Business Education is an area of education which deals with the study of the
subject of related disciplines. It is a combination of two disciplines dealing
mainly with the art of shorthand writing, typewriting, accounting, business
mathematics, secretarial duties, and commerce and office practice. The field
of study offers every individual an opportunity to develop those abilities, skills
and understanding of the vocational opportunity available.

One of the important macro-economic problems of our system is

unemployment. Unemployment exists because most of the products of our
education system look forjobs that do not exist because the system of
education was general in nature not meeting specific occupational needs.

To meet the needs of the society the National policy on education de-
emphasizes our liberal education system for the utilitarian type of education.
In recognition of this, Business Education programme was incorporated into
our educational system right from the junior secondary school level for a
gradual skill development and competency.

Business Education plays a significant role in Nigeria’s economic growth and

development.  It improves personal qualities and builds the attitudes of
individuals that are necessary for adjustment to personal and employment
situations, and also provides knowledge, skills and competence for individuals
to function well in office occupation and also create jobs for themselves and
others (Amoor and Udoh 2008).   In spite of federal government’s initiatives to
eradicate unemployment and poverty in the society the nation’s economy is
still characterized by high rate of unemployment and poverty.  Therefore, the
importance of a curriculum that will help to reform Business Education
programme in Nigerian Universities by developing individuals that will
contribute meaningfully to economic growth and development of the nation
cannot be under estimated.  The uncontrolled rate of unemployment and
poverty has brought about the dire need to carry out some modifications in the
curriculum of Business Education programme in Nigerian universities so that
the students will not only be exposed to a particular skill but also to creative
thinking sufficient enough to establish and run a business at least at the small
scale level. Now that the nation is experiencing economic meltdown, which
will in turn, increase the rate of unemployment and poverty in the society,
integrating entrepreneurship courses into the curriculum of  Business
Education programme in Nigerian institutions is a right call and at the right
time since entrepreneurship education will provide additional skills, resources,
and methodologies to Business Education graduates to transform their ideas
into  visible and viable businesses after graduating from the College. If this is
rightly done, the graduates do not need to queue up in the labour market for
paid employment but rather create jobs for themselves and others.  This will
go a long way to reduce poverty in the society and unemployment in the
labour         market.

In order to be able to understand the concept of business education, it would

be necessary to look at the definitions of business education in the past and
present time. This is because technology has helped to change definitions of
certain things. It therefore, implies that business education, as a course of
study has to move with time.
Popham (1975) said
when a group of people were asked what business education is? The reply
was as follows: A business executive replied, “Business Education is
education to produce goods and services”. A radical retorted: It is the avenue
to make enormous profit. One teacher responded: Economic concepts
necessary for living in a business economy. Another teacher answered:
Learning skills to enter a business or distributive job. A person on the street
said “Shorthand and typing, that’s it”. After looking at the different views of
people about business education, Popham came to a conclusion that:
Business education is a course that prepares students for entry into and
advancement in jobs within business and it is equally important because it
prepares students to handle their own business affairs and to function
intelligently as consumers and citizens in a business economy. Nolan, Hayden
& Malsbary (1967) defined business education as those business
programmes and courses taught ordinarily at the secondary school level.
Osuala E.C. (1989) defined Business education as an essential part of the
preparation of youths for live and living. In 2004, Osuala, gave another
definition as a programme of instruction which consists of two parts (1) Office
education – a vocational programme of office careers through initial, refresher
and upgrading education and (2) General business education – a programme
to provide students with information and competences which are needed by
all in managing personal business affairs and in using the services of the
business. Still on the definition of business education, Njoku (1997) defines
business education as that facet of educational training that helps the
individual to acquire relevant skills needed for living. However in 2006 Njoku
gave another definition as an educational programme that equips an individual
with functional and suitable skills, knowledge, attitude and value that would
enable him/her operates in the environment he/she finds himself/herself. It
can be seen from the foregoing discussions that as the years go by; the
definitions of business education continue to change. This means that
business education is not static.

Therefore any worthwhile programme has to move with time. However,

business educators have always accepted that change is a fact of life. From
the typewriter to the transistor, business curriculum has continually shaped
itself to meet the needs of business. As a result, the success and survival of
business education constantly depends on its ability to adapt and keep pace
with the needs of its recipients. These changes present challenges for both
the learner and instructor. Nevertheless, it is the business educator that must
be willing to adapt and manage these challenges to ensure successful
programs for the future. It is essential that business education be a useful and
vital component of transformation agenda if the curriculum of business
programs across the country is to continue to meet the needs of its students.

It could be deduced from the definitions above that Business education is an

education for and about business. It combines both theoretical and practical
knowledge. In the same vein, it exposes the recipient to the economic system
of his country and equips him with lifelong skills that would enable him to
make reasonable judgment as a producer, employee or consumer of goods
and services.

Business education deals with empowerment necessary to meet business

challenges in a dynamic business world or society. It offers recipients the
ability to cope with emerging changes in education, and in business where the
person is expected to manifest all the skills acquired while in training.
Therefore, business education is planned for training and developing
recipients to expose them in the field of business, and as a professional,
consequently, expanding the way for imparting competences for economic
development of the society.

Abstract
Business education is a program of study and an aspect of vocational education
program offered in both secondary and tertiary institutions of learning in Nigeria. This
program is designed to equip the recipients with both academic and vocational skills
needed for both salaried and self employment as entrepreneurs. Unfortunately and
ignorantly too, this course is being looked down on by students, parents and society in
general, just like every other vocational education program. Students neglect Business
education programme and are disenchanted about opting for it, especially at the tertiary
institution level. Equally, parents believe that Business education is a course for dullards
or for someone else's child. They seldom encourage their children or wards to study it.
The main aim of this piece of work is to highlight the meaning and objectives of
Business education program and its importance to its recipients. It also X-rays how
Business education equips students for employment. It recommends among other
things for a change of the general public's attitude towards the course since it has
capacity to reverse the unemployment challenge of Nigeria. It was concluded that
parents should encourage their children and wards to study Business education if they
are interested in it, because it will enable them to be job creators rather than job
seekers.

... Analysis of teacher component also revealed that there is dearth of well qualified
business educators in most state secondary schools. The categories of teachers

certificate in education. They noted that most teachers of pre-vocational Business

training are carried on with the same technology as it is performed in the real life
environment, with the same operation, the same tools and the same machines as in the
occupation itself. For instance, effective teaching and learning of Business Studies
subjects demands that the school should have the following facilities or equipment:
business laboratory containing the following office automation: cyclostyling machines,
photocopying machines, stop watches, stapling machines, computer lab equipped with
computer (in place of typing pool with typewriters,) Unfortunately, there are hardly such
facilities in most public or state owned secondary schools in Enugu State. ...

Scope Of Business Education In
Nigeria

Here in this post, we are going to discuss the scope Of Business

Education In Nigeria. We hope you find reading this very
informative.
The importance of business education cannot be overestimated
in the Nigerian development context. Nevertheless, in this
article, I will be considering the scope of business education,
this, in essence, will help in uncovering the actual concept of
business education and perhaps, why Nigerians should embrace
the discipline, particularly in their everyday life. Now let us look
at what business education is all about.

What Is Business Education?
One of the popular definition of business education is that, the
discipline is a broad array of college courses, which are meant
to be taught, and students of different ages can actually be
taught about the fundamental principles of business. And some
of these courses includes:
 business management, and
 business law, and

 entrepreneurship, and

 economics, plus

 computer courses, like; web design among others.

One can actually study business education wherever he wants

to, for example, a good number of schools and universities in
Nigeria have business education in their curricula.
Nevertheless, if someone wants a more in-depth business-
related education, such individual can choose to go to a
business school or good still, pursue a business degree in a
college, where business is the key subject of education.

Types Of Business Education Programme:
Business education comes in different forms
-At Primary Level:
As we have mentioned earlier in this article, business education
comes in different shapes and various forms. For instance, in
secondary business education, there are subjects, such as:
-keyboarding and
-computer science
These subjects are taught right from the very early years.
-At Secondary Level:
In subsequent, there are some subjects that are more
complicated, like in the case of;
-economics and
-accountancy,
These subjects are actually introduced in middle school year
and they are being taught all the way via post primary or high
school.
-At Undergraduate Level:
The undergraduate business education in tertiary institutions
include all kinds of undergraduate degrees in the discipline of
business, for example;
-business administration, and
-commerce, and
-economics, and
-management, and
-accountancy, and
-business science, and
-finance among others.

-At Postgraduate Level:
The postgraduate level of business education is a kind of
programme that provides students, who seek a postgraduate
degree in business education an in-depth and scientific view on
business principles and business elements.
Just like an undergraduate degree programme, postgraduate
degree programme can as well, be that of either business in
general, or it can be about one of the many fields of business
education.
Students can decide to choose a specific aspect of the study, for
instance, that of non-profit organisations or the one of
marketing research.
Doctoral level:
Doctoral business education focuses much more on the
scientific areas of business, instead of focusing on the practical.
Having said that, some doctoral degree programme does
focused on the applied aspect of research. Apart from all that I
have listed here in this article so far, there is also another
option of learning about business via separate business courses
in colleges.
The option is only suitable for those students, who may want to
get only, the most important basics and as well, get them fast.
Now that I have talked about what business education is, let me
now tell you why business education exists and why business
education is important.
What Are The Objectives of business education?
Since there are quite a number of business education
programmes in Nigeria, which I may love to talk about in this
article, I will rather limit my focus only to the general business
education taught in Nigerian schools. That out of the way, the
major objectives of business education include:
1. Assisting students to gain knowledge on what business is all
about by teaching them different business-related subjects and
courses.
2. Teaching students on how to deal with finances, and taxes as
well as, other business-related issues.
3. The development of the analytic as well as, the evaluation of
skills when it comes to taking a decision on business-related
matters.

Nigeria
4. Giving the students a theoretical base for future
entrepreneurship.
5. Providing students with useful skills, which they can apply to
other areas of life rather than business, for example, computer
science and/or keyboarding.
6. Engaging them in responsibilities that prepare the students
for their adult life, especially in the capitalist society like
Nigeria.
7. Explaining to the students the possible problems and also
pitfalls they may likely to come across when engaging in their
own businesses.
8. Encouraging them to be much more interested in business.
After studying a good course of business education, every
student should earn all the necessary skills that will make their
lives worthwhile in a consumerist society, and also they should
understand the way and how things work in business and why
they work in business.
The students should be able to make sure that, their own sound
assessments and their decisions are correct, especially when it
comes to business.
The Important Of Business Education:
What is the importance of business education? And why is
business education that important? Anywhere, first of all, as I
have said earlier, business education gives the students the
necessary skills that will make them live in today’s society.
In years back, we might not have been interested in business
education. However, as the day goes by and the economy
changes, even education has to change as also.
In fact, without some of the basic business education, we might
not have known how and why the Nigerian economy works or
why things cost few naira.
We perhaps, would not have been productive members of
society in the first instance, as we would not have the requisite
theoretic base of education.
Quality business education can actually make an individual
more competitive in the marketplace, either as an employee or
as an entrepreneur.
It does help an individual to avoid some grave mistakes in
business, and as well, save a lot of money when engaging in
one’s own business.
Interestingly too, business education has the capacity to make
an individual more creative, and teach him to think outside the
box in order to achieve your goals via unique methods.
As a matter of necessity, every person needs business
education if he actually wants to be able to function in this
modern society.
It is the business education that provides the required theory, it
also explains this through practice as well as, helps in raising
new generations of skilful, and intelligent plus responsible
citizens.
Hence, should you want to become better at a business or
perhaps, you just want to learn a new useful skill, then there is
a need to consider business education.

are meant to be taught, and students of different ages can

In subsequent, there are some subjects that are more
complicated, like in the case of;
-economics and
-accountancy,
These subjects are actually introduced in middle school year
and they are being taught all the way via post primary or high
school.
-At Undergraduate Level:
The undergraduate business education in tertiary institutions
include all kinds of undergraduate degrees in the discipline of
business, for example;

Nigeria Education Scope Of Business Education In Nigeria Joseph AthanasiusMarch 5, 2019Last Updated:
March 5, 2019 5 minutes read Here in this post, we are going to discuss the scope Of Business Education
In Nigeria. We hope you find reading this very informative. The importance of business education cannot
be overestimated in the Nigerian development context. Nevertheless, in this article, I will be considering
the scope of business education, this, in essence, will help in uncovering the actual concept of business
education and perhaps, why Nigerians should embrace the discipline, particularly in their everyday life.
Now let us look at what business education is all about. Read Also: Emerging Issues In Business
Education Scope Of Business Education In Nigeria – Photo Source: https://study.com What Is Business
Education? One of the popular definition of business education is that, the discipline is a broad array of
college courses, which are meant to be taught, and students of different ages can actually be taught
about the fundamental principles of business. And some of these courses includes: business
management, and business law, and entrepreneurship, and economics, plus computer courses, like; web
design among others. One can actually study business education wherever he wants to, for example, a
good number of schools and universities in Nigeria have business education in their curricula.
Nevertheless, if someone wants a more in-depth business-related education, such individual can choose
to go to a business school or good still, pursue a business degree in a college, where business is the key
subject of education. Read Also: Development Of Business Education In Nigeria Types Of Business
Education Programme: Business education comes in different forms -At Primary Level: As we have
mentioned earlier in this article, business education comes in different shapes and various forms. For
instance, in secondary business education, there are subjects, such as: -keyboarding and -computer
science These subjects are taught right from the very early years. -At Secondary Level: In subsequent,
there are some subjects that are more complicated, like in the case of; -economics and -accountancy,
These subjects are actually introduced in middle school year and they are being taught all the way via
post primary or high school. -At Undergraduate Level: The undergraduate business education in tertiary
institutions include all kinds of undergraduate degrees in the discipline of business, for example; -
business administration, and -commerce, and -economics, and -management, and -accountancy, and -
business science, and -finance among others. Read Also: Place Of Business Education In Nigerian Society
-At Postgraduate Level: The postgraduate level of business education is a kind of programme that
provides students, who seek a postgraduate degree in business education an in-depth and scientific
view on business principles and business elements. Just like an undergraduate degree programme,
postgraduate degree programme can as well, be that of either business in general, or it can be about
one of the many fields of business education. Students can decide to choose a specific aspect of the
study, for instance, that of non-profit organisations or the one of marketing research. Doctoral level:
Doctoral business education focuses much more on the scientific areas of business, instead of focusing
on the practical. Having said that, some doctoral degree programme does focused on the applied aspect
of research. Apart from all that I have listed here in this article so far, there is also another option of
learning about business via separate business courses in colleges. The option is only suitable for those
students, who may want to get only, the most important basics and as well, get them fast. Now that I
have talked about what business education is, let me now tell you why business education exists and
why business education is important. What Are The Objectives of business education? Since there are
quite a number of business education programmes in Nigeria, which I may love to talk about in this
article, I will rather limit my focus only to the general business education taught in Nigerian schools. That
out of the way, the major objectives of business education include: 1. Assisting students to gain
knowledge on what business is all about by teaching them different business-related subjects and
courses. 2. Teaching students on how to deal with finances, and taxes as well as, other business-related
issues. 3. The development of the analytic as well as, the evaluation of skills when it comes to taking a
decision on business-related matters. Read Also: Procedures For Promoting Business Education In
Nigeria 4. Giving the students a theoretical base for future entrepreneurship. 5. Providing students with
useful skills, which they can apply to other areas of life rather than business, for example, computer
science and/or keyboarding. 6. Engaging them in responsibilities that prepare the students for their
adult life, especially in the capitalist society like Nigeria. 7. Explaining to the students the possible
problems and also pitfalls they may likely to come across when engaging in their own businesses. 8.
Encouraging them to be much more interested in business. After studying a good course of business
education, every student should earn all the necessary skills that will make their lives worthwhile in a
consumerist society, and also they should understand the way and how things work in business and why
they work in business. The students should be able to make sure that, their own sound assessments and
their decisions are correct, especially when it comes to business. The Important Of Business Education:
What is the importance of business education? And why is business education that important?
Anywhere, first of all, as I have said earlier, business education gives the students the necessary skills
that will make them live in today’s society. In years back, we might not have been interested in business
education. However, as the day goes by and the economy changes, even education has to change as
also. In fact, without some of the basic business education, we might not have known how and why the
Nigerian economy works or why things cost few naira. We perhaps, would not have been productive
members of society in the first instance, as we would not have the requisite theoretic base of education.
Quality business education can actually make an individual more competitive in the marketplace, either
as an employee or as an entrepreneur. It does help an individual to avoid some grave mistakes in
business, and as well, save a lot of money when engaging in one’s own business. Interestingly too,
business education has the capacity to make an individual more creative, and teach him to think outside
the box in order to achieve your goals via unique methods. As a matter of necessity, every person needs
business education if he actually wants to be able to function in this modern society. It is the business
education that provides the required theory, it also explains this through practice as well as, helps in
raising new generations of skilful, and intelligent plus responsible citizens. Hence, should you want to
become better at a business or perhaps, you just want to learn a new useful skill, then there is a need to
consider business education. Read Also: Why Do We Need Citizenship Education In Nigeria Conclusion
