Eric Arthur Blair, born 25 June 1903 and dead 21 January 1950, known by his pen
name George Orwell, was an English novelist, essayist, journalist and critic. His
work is characterized by lucid prose biting social criticism, total opposition to
totalitarianism, and outspoken support of democratic socialism. He’s known for
his famous novels, ‘’Animal Farm ‘’ and the dystopian novel ‘’nineteen-eighty-
four’’. He was born to a non-wealthy family, however Orwell had a gift for writing,
which he recognized at the age of five or six. Blair changed his name to “George
Orwell” so his family name won’t be embarrassed by his time in poverty. He chose
the name George Orwell to reflect his love of English tradition and landscape.
