Concept Notes:
Traditional Visual Arts- it encompasses a wide range of forms created by Filipinos. Traditionally visual
art forms include paintings, sculpture and architecture . Other some functional
visual art forms includes advertising arts, basketry, metal craft, mat weaving,
pottery, and textile weaving.
A. Painting- refers to the process of applying color on the flat surface.
Forms can be created using variety of materials. Ex. Water, acrylic, pastel, charcoal, oil
,ink. Surfaces of painting can be wood ,canvass ,cardboard ,paper This is considered as
two dimensional art.

C. Architecture -is considered to be one of the most functional branches of visual arts. We can readily see
architecture in our surroundings because architecture involves the form of a building while allowing
the building to serve its function. It is considered to be the ‘’art to inhibit’’.
Forms of architecture

Apartment –this refers to a building composed of many residences called units.


This is usually built in populated urban areas. Condominiums are
offshoots of apartment.

Bahay kubo- is considered as an ethnic house of Christian peasant living


families in the lowland areas. This is typically owned by families
belonging in low income groups.

Barong-Barong- are houses of the landless poor that are built on any land
or area These are usually found near esteros , riverbank and bay
shores abandoned buildings or any vacant lot. Usually seen in urban
areas.

Houseboat- is basically a boat that also serves as a dwelling place. The


Badjao’s or Sama Laut resides in houseboats in Southern Mindanao.
