Journal critique

1.0 Introduction
The criticized journal was titled ‘The Role of Education in National Development: Nigerian
Experience’ by Dr. Kingdom, E. Orji Maekae, Job from the Department of History and
Diplomatic Studies Ignatius Ajuru University of Education Port Harcourt. This journal is
published in the Journal of European Scientific Journal, October 2013, edition vol.9, No.28.
The author of this journal is very concerned about the contributions of education to national
development. The authors also suggest that education, being a major investment in human
capital development, plays a critical role in long-term productivity and growth at both micro
and macro levels.

The writing of this journal begins with an introduction to education and national
development conceptual clarifications. The importance of education quality in Nigeria effects
the declining quality of education where it gives an impact on a nations moral civic, cultural
and economic sustainability. Education prepares a person to meet societal needs for national
growth and to be valuable in society. Therefore, it should be obvious that a country cannot
obtain the necessary personnel for material growth and the enlightenment of the populace
without education.

The introduction to the production of this journal discusses the importance of

education which is a key sector in any national development and represents a major
investment in human capital development to bring about small to large scale change in the
country. The authors explain why educational attainment in Nigeria remains a national
discourse at all levels. As a result, the impact of declining quality of education at all levels
has far-reaching and negative consequences for the moral, civic, cultural and economic
sustainability of the country. Prominent among the points to be considered here is that
education supplies the needed manpower for national development. The tool that manipulates
the necessary labour force for a country's development is education. A developed and
educated society is one where there is sufficient labour, and everyone is in their proper place
to transform how people live.

2.0 Journal Criticism

2.1 Journal Strength

This journal offers a few benefits. The journal's authors work hard to demonstrate the
value of education in Nigeria's growth. The author has cited a good number of well-known
authors on the importance of education in a country's development, including the citation
compares the evolution of education in relation to Nigeria. The author is aware of Nigeria's
contemporary educational climate. Readers can better grasp his arguments and conclusions
about the function of education if they are familiar with the state of education in Nigeria.

According to the definition of education provided above, it is evident that education

prepares a person to contribute to society and to meet societal demands for national progress.
Therefore, it should be obvious that a country cannot obtain the necessary personnel for
material growth and the enlightenment of the populace without education. Skilled teachers,
doctors, engineers, and other professions are all examples of educated people. This is why it
is also stated that a country's level of national development is determined by the calibre of its
educational system.

The journal also reveals the importance of the strategic role that education plays in
determining the direction of a country's growth. The government's failure to support
education, the politicization of education, the shifting political landscape, the constant
modification of educational policy, and corruption are at the heart of the crisis that has
gripped Nigeria's educational system. The Nigerian educational system has been plagued by a
recurring crisis, which is addressed in the recipe or long-term solutions provided below.

The study also explains and suggested the educational system's school system
encourages its development. For a shared goal, the school brings people from many cultural
backgrounds together. This encourages the various students to get along with one another. The
next strength is the sources referenced in the production of this journal. The authors have
consulted reference materials that have many facts and findings. The author describes the
different types of pioneered by such famous scholars as Todaro, Smith , Markovitz and so on.
This will help other reading researchers to do further research on the absorption of critical,
creative and innovative thinking skills in the curriculum. This research also underlines how
low resources, systemic politicization, an unstable political climate, and corruption in Nigeria
have made it difficult for education to contribute to national progress. Some
recommendations have been made in order for education to have a good impact on national
development; if properly implemented, they will resolve the crises now plaguing Nigeria's
educational system.

2.2 Disadvantages of the journal

The downside found in this journal is that no studies were conducted. This journal
simply explains only the facts about the role of education in national development. The
authors should conduct a descriptive and inferential study aimed at assessing the
effectiveness of the implementation of curriculum with critical, creative and innovative
aspects of thinking. The author can also use the content analysis method if there are
constraints in doing research for curriculum construction.

The next disadvantage is that the author does not use any graphic form. This journal
contains only factual writing which the author had found through his readings. The limitation
of findings in this study is a drawback for this research. Readers will be interested if there
are charts, diagrams or tables to explain the essence of the journal. Graphic forms can convey
information easily and quickly. Readers can also analyze the findings of this journal with
pleasure. The studies have not come up with any factual research findings on any samples.

The arrangement of facts and information also has some drawbacks. The author does
not compile information interestingly. Different information needs to be compiled using
different subtopics. The author did not use this method in the results of this writing.
Moreover, the paragraph of facts is also extremely long. The author needs to simplify the
sentences and ideas described so that they are easy to understand. The reference supported in
this study is not sufficient enough to make any claims and findings of experts.
