CVC Word Building Trains

This activity is perfect for small group work or an independent center. Print and laminate the
train mats and letter tiles. After cutting out the letter tiles for each train set, store them in a
plastic bag or small container. Each set is color coded to help keep them organized. (The train
engines in each set are a different color, and the letter tiles for each set have the same color
border as the engines.) For each set, there is a worksheet for children to write the words they
made on the trains. There are 4 train sets, a set of letter tiles for each set, and 4 worksheets
for short u words.

Teacher Tip: It would be helpful to the children to make sure they recognize the pictures. For
example, make sure they know that the picture is “cub”, and not “bear”.
