We always capitalize proper nouns (names of specific things) in


English. There are many other rules when it comes to capitalization.

We need to capitalize cities and countries.

• I live in Hong Kong.


• My father is from Scotland.
• I live in London.

We also need to capitalize nationalities and languages.

• We speak English in England.


• They speak French in France.
• People from America are called Americans.
• People from China are called Chinese.

Names of specific things.

• The Great Wall of China is in Beijing.


• The Rainforest has many animals.
• The Eiffel Tower is in Paris.
• Egypt is famous for their Pyramids.
