The radius of curvature R of a spherical surface is given by

Precautions:(j)thescrew must be turned in one direction only to avolid error due to back lash.
(i) the proper just touch position should be obtained both on convex surface and the plane surface.
(ii) the legs of the spherometer should not be shaky and the screw should rotate freely.
