On the Institutionalization of Ideas

The human race exists in its own way because of the stories it has carried with it . Since the
beginning of time , man has fabricated tales and introduced certain notions as a means to
make the world around him make sense . It is quite endearing if not fascinating to see how
people fabricate all there is around them to create comfort for themselves in this given space .
Evolutionarily speaking , such tales initiated through Paganism in the fourth century where
man took onto polytheistic beliefs that corresponded to the nature around them . The latter
eventually developed into monotheism and reliance on the notion that one God is the creator
of nature as opposed to assigning gods to different factors in our environment . The ideas or
purpose behind deity prohibits the chaos that might result when we give man free will to
asses his purpose and origin on his own. Resorting to deistic philosophies brings peace and
creates a sense of assertion in man through the power given to him by religion and its ideas .
The birth of such notions as a means of comfort is carried into the following centuries and is
materialized or rather institutionalized to give belief systems a more definite and grounding
meaning in modern society .
Another fine example of such institutionalization is the notion of a society and the gover-
nance of the weaker by the stronger . This simple conviction has been advanced with assis-
tance of patriarchal and matriarchal theories as a means to create the modern society from a
familiar sense ; as a start ; to a profitable sense as a means to give people purpose and value .
There is no doubt that the beauty of the mind falls into its curiosity to all that it is oblivious
to. As a result of asking questions and raising hypotheses on the origin of what is around us
we materialize things we have no control over . We substantialize idealistic theories and hu-
manize them in order to convince ourselves that we have some control of the world. That is
where the issue initiates .
I personally believe that the initiative we as a species take to make certain ideas regarding
larger values or societies or belief systems more profitable , industrial or more materialistic is
what ruins the true intent behind such ideas that are put up for debate or discussion . The need
to control or grasp concepts we are not entirely sure of to better execute them is what in-
evitably transforms once innocent ideas to make them corrupt .
Philanthropy or charity work , whether supported or sponsored by religious or civil influences
, is a main example as to how institutionalizing ideas is a bad move . When one builds a
charity foundation nowadays , its purpose becomes quite vague for many people have used
charitable means as a way to not pay taxes and build their riches in the name of philanthropy .
Why must once simple goals and principles such as giving back and doing acts of service be-
come materialized in order to serve value in our world ?
In addition , a more modern economic example is the right to own property or capital and
trade . Giving people the mere freedom to own something creates a sense of control and se-
curity . The reinforcement of the right to own and trade has lead in later years to the emer-
gence of Capitalism between the 16th and 18th century . The prevalence of private property

under the means of capitalism has ruined the true intent of owning and working . In the In-
quiry into the Wealth of Nations written by Adam Smith , he reveals labor before industrial-
ization was a means of expression to those who did work as they put themselves into their
work . However , the rise of specialization and micromanagement has stripped people from
this means of expression and made them retaliate from this need to put themselves into their
work . By encouraging this right to own to such an extreme extent in legal and economic
frontiers , we essentially abolish this individual passion that one might have had for their
work and ruin the joy and security that exists with owning something for ourselves and work-
ing as an active part of society , for industrialization has diminished the purpose of individu-
als to a fraction of what they used to be .

It is evident that industrializing certain ideas and rights have inevitably lead to their
downfall . There is a sense of possession to ideas that we feel entitled to own and personalize
as a societies as this control reduces our fear of what we do not know . There exists no com-
fort in oblivion and the latter is the reason why many ideas and concepts that we have turned
into institutions inevitably lose their initial value . It is vital to realize that admitting to un-
certainty regarding beliefs and convictions overpowers doing harm in the name of these
convictions . Some notions are meant to remain unclaimed and it benefits all mankind in the
end .
