➢ Litsea leytens iscommonly known as batikuling is a large
tree widely found in the forests of Luzon, especially in
Quezon Province. The batikuling wood is hard, pale in color
and, at one time, was used for making agricultural tools
handles and laundry paddles. Litsea leytensis is a species of
plant in the Lauraceae family.
➢ The preferred material for wood carving is the Batikuling
wood. The wood is treated so it will repel termites. The wood
is light but can last for a lifetime. Other wood that are used
are Narra, Molave and Kamagong. These are very tough
and heavy type of woods.
