Diseases that affect the circulatory

system
1. An aneurysm is a bulge in a blood vessel caused by a weakness
in the blood vessel wall, usually where it branches. As blood
passes through the weakened blood vessel, the blood pressure
causes a small area to bulge outwards like a balloon.
What are the early warning signs of an aneurysm?
Symptoms
 Nausea and vomiting.
 Stiff neck.
 Blurred or double vision.
 Sensitivity to light.
 Seizure.
 A drooping eyelid.
 Loss of consciousness.
 Confusion.

2. Arrhythmias -
An arrhythmia is a problem with the rate or rhythm of your
heartbeat. It means that your heart beats too quickly, too slowly, or
with an irregular pattern. When the heart beats faster than normal, it
is called tachycardia. When the heart beats too slowly, it is called
bradycardia

Symptoms of arrhythmias include palpitations, feeling dizzy,

fainting and being short of breath, although having these
symptoms does not always mean you have a heart rhythm problem.
Arrhythmia Alliance's heart rhythm checklists can help you gather
information to discuss with your GP if you have any of these
symptoms.

3. Atherosclerosis - is the buildup of fats, cholesterol and other

substances in and on the artery walls. This buildup is
called plaque. The plaque can cause arteries to narrow,
blocking blood flow.
What are the symptoms of atherosclerosis?
 chest pain or angina.
 pain in your leg, arm, and anywhere else that has a
blocked artery.
 cramping in the buttocks while walking.
 shortness of breath.
 fatigue.
 confusion, which occurs if the blockage affects circulation
to your brain.

4. Vasculitis - an inflammation of your blood vessels caused by an

overactive immune system
Vasculitis can have general symptoms like fever, loss of
appetite, weight loss, and fatigue.

5. Venous diseases - a group of conditions that affect your veins

Some of the more common disorders include:
 Blood clots.
 Chronic venous insufficiency.
 Deep vein thrombosis.
 Phlebitis.
 Varicose and spider veins.

6. Stroke - blood flow to the brain gets interrupted or a blood vessel in the
brain bursts

There are two main causes of stroke: a blocked artery

(ischemic stroke) or leaking or bursting of a blood vessel
(hemorrhagic stroke). Some people may have only a
temporary disruption of blood flow to the brain, known as a
transient ischemic attack (TIA), that doesn't cause lasting
symptoms. What are the five warning signs of stroke?

5 Warning Signs of Stroke

 Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm or leg
(especially on one side of the body).
 Sudden confusion or trouble speaking or understanding
speech.
 Sudden vision problems in one or both eyes.
 Sudden difficulty walking or dizziness, loss of balance or
problems with coordination.

7. Heart Valve Disease - disease that affect the four heart valves

In heart valve disease, one or more of the valves in your

heart doesn't work properly. Your heart has four valves
that keep blood flowing in the correct direction. In some
cases, one or more of the valves don't open or close
properly. This can cause the blood flow through your heart
to your body to be disrupted.

8. Congenital heart disease - heart problems babies are born with.

Congenital heart disease is a general term for a range of birth

defects that affect the normal way the heart works. The term
"congenital" means the condition is present from birth.
9. Cardiomyopathy - a group of conditions that affect your heart
muscle, leading to weakened heart squeeze

Cardiomyopathy (kahr-dee-o-my-OP-uh-thee) is a disease of the heart

muscle that makes it harder for the heart to pump blood to the rest of
the body. Cardiomyopathy can lead to heart failure.
