in summer
I can talk about what I'm going to
wear based on a weather report.
To do this, I can …
• use vocabulary about the environment;
• talk about my zero waste intentions;
• talk about the weather;
• use the future simple;
• name items of clothing;
• name the seasons;
• talk about the present and the future.

To talk about the future, we can use the future simple.
It will be a sunny day next Tuesday. We won’t have thunderstorms tonight.
Time indicators can be tomorrow, next week, next weekend, next year, a few days/weeks/years later …
As an alternative to talk about the future you can also use the verb to be + going to + infinitive.

a Fill in the right season (winter, spring, summer or autumn).
b Highlight all the names of clothes and accessories in the texts.
It’s very cold. To keep warm, you need a warm coat. Most people prefer wearing a scarf around
the neck, and maybe some gloves or mittens to keep their hands warm. You can also wear a
bonnet or hat to keep your head warm. A cap won’t keep you warm. Girls who like wearing skirts
have to wear some tights now to keep their legs warm. If you go to work wearing a suit, put on a
coat to keep the cold away.
The weather is getting a bit warmer. Flowers and trees are starting to bloom again. It’s too early for
a swimsuit, bikini and swimming trunks, but it’s time to wear your favourite polo shirt and jeans. You
still need a pullover, though. Wearing boots instead of trainers or your everyday shoes is a wise
thing to do! Don’t forget your raincoat and umbrella for the frequent showers.
It’s getting colder and the trees are losing their leaves. It’s time to put on an extra pullover and a shirt
with long sleeves. Don’t wear those shorts or mini skirts anymore but put on a pair of trousers
or jeans, or wear your skirts with leggings (to keep your legs warm) or socks on your feet. When
wearing a blouse, add an extra blazer! Do you want a casual look? Why not combine your shirt or
T-shirt with a hoodie? Or try a pair of nice overalls with a checked shirt. Grab a jacket before you
go out!

Eco holidays
5 ways to have a green holiday
We all love going on holiday! How can we make our travels
more eco-friendly?
1 Book it!
Travel guides are usually only used once. Just think about how many trees
you can save if you don’t take home all the brochures or don’t buy new
books!
Book your holiday on the Internet. No need for brochures and no trip to
the travel agent’s. If you have brochures, recycle them. Buy a tourist guide
second-hand or bring one from the library: it’s cheaper and green.
2 Get there!
Every year 5% more people travel by plane, but planes are the most
polluting type of transport.
Why not take the train? Air travel makes three times
more carbon dioxide per passenger than train travel.
Especially for travelling within Europe, train travel can
be a green and surprisingly fun and relaxing alternative.
3 Save water!
Most tourists use more water in 24 hours than a whole village in a poor
country in 100 days. Tourists tend to take longer showers and keep the
taps running while shaving or brushing their teeth on holiday.
Some hotels already help you to save water! They ask you to reuse your
towels. In Cape Town, South Africa tourists are even asked not to flush the
toilets.
4 Enjoy wildlife!
Building big hotels destroys areas where many animals live. Trees are
often cut down to create big spaces for luxury hotels with large facilities
and swimming pools. Some places, such as the Galapagos Islands, are very
crowded and tourists invade the animals habits.
Stay in an eco-friendly hotel where people care for the local environment.
Choose a central location, so you are close to everything and use public
transport.
