21 Read these other descriptions from the same website. When were they written?
a Fill in the right season (winter, spring, summer or autumn).
b Highlight all the names of clothes and accessories in the texts.

It’s very cold. To keep warm, you need a warm coat. Most people prefer wearing a scarf around
the neck, and maybe some gloves or mittens to keep their hands warm. You can also wear a
bonnet or hat to keep your head warm. A cap won’t keep you warm. Girls who like wearing skirts
have to wear some tights now to keep their legs warm. If you go to work wearing a suit, put on a
coat to keep the cold away.

The weather is getting a bit warmer. Flowers and trees are starting to bloom again. It’s too early for
a swimsuit, bikini and swimming trunks, but it’s time to wear your favourite polo shirt and jeans. You
still need a pullover, though. Wearing boots instead of trainers or your everyday shoes is a wise
thing to do! Don’t forget your raincoat and umbrella for the frequent showers.

It’s getting colder and the trees are losing their leaves. It’s time to put on an extra pullover and a shirt
with long sleeves. Don’t wear those shorts or mini skirts anymore but put on a pair of trousers
or jeans, or wear your skirts with leggings (to keep your legs warm) or socks on your feet. When
wearing a blouse, add an extra blazer! Do you want a casual look? Why not combine your shirt or
T-shirt with a hoodie? Or try a pair of nice overalls with a checked shirt. Grab a jacket before you
go out!

y our
t e st s 1 Read the text about eco holidays.

Eco holidays
5 ways to have a green holiday
We all love going on holiday! How can we make our travels
more eco-friendly?

1 Book it!
Travel guides are usually only used once. Just think about how many trees
you can save if you don’t take home all the brochures or don’t buy new
books!
Book your holiday on the Internet. No need for brochures and no trip to
the travel agent’s. If you have brochures, recycle them. Buy a tourist guide
second-hand or bring one from the library: it’s cheaper and green.

2 Get there!
Every year 5% more people travel by plane, but planes are the most
polluting type of transport.
Why not take the train? Air travel makes three times
more carbon dioxide per passenger than train travel.
Especially for travelling within Europe, train travel can
be a green and surprisingly fun and relaxing alternative.

3 Save water!
Most tourists use more water in 24 hours than a whole village in a poor
country in 100 days. Tourists tend to take longer showers and keep the
taps running while shaving or brushing their teeth on holiday.
Some hotels already help you to save water! They ask you to reuse your
towels. In Cape Town, South Africa tourists are even asked not to flush the
toilets.

4 Enjoy wildlife!
Building big hotels destroys areas where many animals live. Trees are
often cut down to create big spaces for luxury hotels with large facilities
and swimming pools. Some places, such as the Galapagos Islands, are very
crowded and tourists invade the animals habits.
Stay in an eco-friendly hotel where people care for the local environment.
Choose a central location, so you are close to everything and use public
transport.

5 Take only photos!

Don’t buy souvenirs using parts of animals that are in danger: ivory,
tortoise• shell, starfish and coral. Don’t buy mass-produced plastics either.
Support the local economy and buy local, handmade
products. There are also a lot of other creative ways
to get holiday souvenirs: keep a travel journal, take
pictures, sketch …

7 Read the text about the photographers and their pictures.
Which of the two photo books would you like to read?

Peter Menzel and Gregg Segal are both photographers

and they like to travel around the world. Not just for fun, but to
shoot pictures of what families and children around the world eat.

American photographer Peter Menzel’s work Hungry Planet shows

everything that an average family consumes in a given week – and
what it costs. The book Hungry Planet : What the World Eats (2005)
shows meals in 24 countries. His work shows how much the world’s
weekly groceries cost. From the Aboubakar family, from Darfur, Sudan,
who spend 79p feeding six people, to a German family who spend
around £320: there are all kinds of families in the book.

Gregg Segal wondered about something else. What different

foods do kids eat around the world? His work Daily Bread (2017)
shows pictures of children with all the food and drink in one week.
He wants people to think about other ways of eating.

Here are a few pictures from Daily Bread.

Alexandra (9, left) and Jessica (8, right), Altadena, California. Their yard

is filled with food: blackberry bushes, grape vines , and fruit trees - fig,

peach, pomegranate , mulberry and banana. They have chickens too
and eat their eggs almost every day. Jessica loves sweets and pizza
with ham but hates beans, peppers, sushi, and chocolate. Alex makes
pizza rolls and quesadillas herself, but her favourite dish is macaroni

and cheese. She refuses to eat Brussel sprouts or soggy leftover
broccoli.

Ademilson - aka “Ade” - (11) Vão de Almas, Goiás, Brazil.

Ademilson is from Vão de Almas, a community of 300
families. There is no TV, electricity or running water. The

family grows crops: rice, sweet potatoes, squash , beans,

gherkins , oranges, lemons, watermelon, corn, coffee, sugar

cane … They collect a bounty of native fruits too, including
mango and all kinds of special exotic fruits.
