General recommendations on installation
on timber surfaces

It is not recommended to use products with different color codes for decoration

of a single building.
Insignificant color fluctuations, native to exterior wall shingles of all producers,
are probable. To minimize tone misbalance, mix shingles from 5–6 different
packages randomly before application.
If facade works are being conducted at temperatures below +5 °C, packages of
TECHNONICOL HAUBERK should be handed out from a warm room in a ration
of 5–6 packages. At external temperatures below +10 °C self-adhesive strip on
the back of the exterior wall shingle should be warmed up with a heat gun.
Pallets with the material should not be exposed to impacts of direct sunrays
in order to avoid baking of adhesive layer with siliconized protective film.
It is prohibited to storage pallets on top of one another.
For free detach of the exterior wall shingles from one another, slightly bend and
shake the package before opening.

wall covering and decking of the facade occurred due to incorrect installation of
exterior wall shingles or incorrect preparation of the facade decking.

Important: kindly note that using adhesive compounds, which are not recom-
mended by the producer, can lead to damaging of the bitumen-polymer base of

1. Preparation of the surface of the building or constructions

for the installation of exterior wall shingles

The decking for exterior wall shingles is timber surface with a thickness of not less
than 9 mm. The decking should be dry (relative moisture of the timber — not more
than 20%), solid (2–3 mm gaps between decking elements) and rigid.
Before installation of exterior wall shingles thoroughly observe the surface of the
facade and eliminate all visible defects.

2. Surface marking
Before installation of exterior wall shingles the surface of the decking should
be marked with lines, which serve as indicators and help to align the exterior
wall shingles horizontally and vertically. Besides, they help to align exterior wall
shingles TECHNONICOL HAUBERK when the surface of the facade is divided by
some element (e.g. entrance group, window etc.).

Design Installation

Exterior wall shingles TECHNONICOL HAUBERK are suitable for dif-

ferent design solutions thanks to a wide range of colors and possibil-
ity of their accordance, which will definitely grace any cottage and
contribute distinctive style and individual touch.
When mixing shingles of different colors the coating preserves its operational
properties, including sealing and durability.
The pattern of the exterior wall shingles imitates brickwork and, like when work-
ing with bricks, one can create different color combinations. For instance, one
can emphasize the foundation wall with another color, or single elements, cor-
nerposts and frames of windows and door niches.

DESIGN INSTALLATION 30
Fig. 1. Foundation wall arrangement

Fig. 2. Emphasis on cornerpost Fig. 3. Framing of the decorative elements

DESIGN INSTALLATION 31
Principles of pattern design:
1. Exterior wall shingle consists of 4 separate «tabs».
2. Installation to be performed with a half-«tab» shift.
3. Total pattern is diagonal.
4. When installing the rows, the shingles to be interlocked, and the overlying
row, when shifted, should cover the junction of the underlying shingles.
5. To exclude displacement of the shingles and obtain the pattern of correct
brickwork, there are ticks on the upper part of each shingle, which serve as
indicators during installation and are important to cut the «tabs» when creat-
ing a pattern.

Fig. 4. Exterior wall shingles Fig. 5. Ticks for easier installation

General rules of pattern design

1. Pattern is formed from separate «tabs». One shingle to be divided into four
equal «tabs» with scissors or a roofing knife. Each «tab» imitates one brick. When
framing abutting ends and cornerposts, halves of the «tab» imitating halves of a
brick are also used.

Fig. 6. Division of a shingle into «tabs» Fig. 7. Division of a «tab» into halves

DESIGN INSTALLATION 32
2. During works one can use any separate «tab» of any color from the color
palette.
3. To start with, make a layout of the future pattern on a scheme and paint it
by colors. Consider that one «tab» is 25 cm wide and 10 cm high.

10 сm

25 сm

Fig. 8. Layout of the future pattern on a scheme

4. Then calculate the shingles in rows. The first row starts with a half of the dark-
colored “tab”. Then it is joint with light-colored “tabs”. The second row starts with
a whole dark-colored “tab” and continues in light-colored “tabs”. The remaining
halves are used in arrangement of opposite cornerposts. The pattern is ready.
