DISNEY TRADEMARK

Slide 1
Walt Disney Pictures Company is one of the world’s top entertainment and information providers.
It was founded by Walter Elias Disney, an animator, film producer, entrepreneur, and voice actor.

Slide 2
 What is Disney’s trademark?
On may 31st 1928, Walt Disney Enterprises filed to trademark “Mickey Mouse” with the United
States patent office, this being both a name mark and a logo mark, but primarily a name mark for
Mickey Mouse. Since it appears to be the very first trademark for the name, it means if someone
came up with Nickey Mouse or Zickey Mouse, something that wasn’t Mickey Mouse but was
confusingly similar, then they would be infringing on Disney’s rights.
 Is Disney a registered trademark?
Disney holds numerous copyrights and trademarks that restrict the use of the names and images of
its characters. The copyrights give Disney the exclusive right to use the characters. For example,
Disney can prevent others from using Elsa, a character from “Frozen,” in other movies, TV shows,
or books.
 Can I draw and sell Disney characters?
You cannot sell your drawings of Disney characters because, by doing so, you would be infringing
on The Walt Disney Company’s copyrights and trademarks. These characters are their intellectual
property. If you want to sell your Disney artwork, you have to secure a license from them.
 Are Mickey Mouse ears copyrighted?
Disney does not own the rights to mouse ears. What they do own the rights to is Mickey Mouse
and Minnie Mouse. If you reproduce Mickey Mouse, or something that looks like Mickey Mouse,
you could be violating their copyright.

Ever since “Disney Bros. Studio” was first painted on Walt and Roy’s first production facility in
Los Angeles, Disney’s trademark logo has evolved over the years to become one of the most
internationally recognized brands.

Slide 5 – The Disney Logo evolution

The Disney animation company was always founded out of passion. From Mickey Mouse to
Cinderella’s castle, it was founded out of an urge to create magic. Disney land offered a real-life
opportunity to wander through a fantasy land. Disney’s logo shows the detail and passion behind
Disney’s animated world.

Walt Disney died in 1966, at the age of 65. He was convinced that the Disney Corporation would
grow beyond his imagination. He was correct. Today Disney is made up of a number of different
companies or departments. It includes a film company, merchandising company and theme park
world.
