GANCH GROOVE.

GROOVE ON THE STONE

Entered into fund of «Ichan - Kala» reserve-museum of Khiva samples of ganch groove art are
notable for its simplicity of execution and magnificence of motives.
In picturesque patterns of the Khorezm ganch groove the geometrical ornament and
compositions of vegetative patterns in the form of «Madohil», «Turunzh», «Burch gul», «Islimi» is
widely used. At the of XIX-beginning of XX centuries big contribution to development of this kind of
art of Khorezm was brought by masters Hudajbergan Palvanov, Eshmuhammad Hujadberdiyev,
brothers Vafo and Bolta Mirzaevs, Matjakub Dzhanibekov, Hudajbergan Matzhanov and others.
Ancient masters besides their business well grasped in music, poetry and history. Visible master-
carvers of our time Ruzmat Masharipov, Karimbergan Rakhimov, J.Hudajberganov, O.Babadzhanov
and others participate in ornamentation of modern building, reconstruction of ancient monuments.
Unique samples of ganch groove art are kept in a treasury of «Ichan-Kal’a» reserve-museum of Khiva
and shown in exposition halls/ In the hall of ganch groove of Khorezm national-applied art department
under number KP 1436 carved work «Muhabbat», under numbers KP 114 and 115 carved panel with
image of Ata-darvaza and carved work decorated by «islimi» patterns made in 1937 by R.Masharipov
are kept. They draw attention by their grace and simplicity of motives. The exposition also included
works of Adambaj Babadzhanov and Karimbergan Rakhmanov.

15 exhibits-samples of marble groove are presented in a department of national-applied art of


Khorezm. The exhibit under number KP 1192 is made by Hudojborgan Muhrhon, at its very bottom
part there is his personal seal. Inside of the sample there is an inscription poetic lines of a poet and
scientist Ogahi, written by Arabian font in the form of kufi. This marble sample is considered as a
document, devoted to the history of one medrese. The exhibit under number KP 1204 - a sepulchral
stone for Ibragim Hodzhi is made also by Hudojbergan Muhrhon. «Madohil» patterns arc put on the
marble, inside of which there is an inscriptions in Arabian language in the form of kufi. This is a word
of followers of prophet Muhammad about Ibragim Hodzhi. We again see a personal seal of the master
here. Under numbers KP 1203 and KP 4963 works of Hudojbergan Muhrhon are exhibited. Precepts
and odes of poets of that lime by Arabian font in the form of kufi, decorated by «islimi» patterns are
embodied on them. Master Hudojbergan Muhrhon has left progeny and children. From them
Sabirdzhan Hudojberganov and Karimbergan Rakhmonov have continued business of their father and
became known masters.
In a department of national-applied art of Khorezm their works are also presented. There is a
composition «Muhabbat» under numbers KP 116 and KP 119. In exposition under number KP 1206
vakf addressed to Muhammad Holdor is presented. With the exposition a marble kazan, fireplace, jug,
Ijagans with Arabian inscriptions are also exhibited. All the marble exhibits kept in treasury of «Ichan
Kala» reserve-museum are presented in the expositions in full.
