LOCH LOMOND
WITHOUT
A CAR
Exploring Loch Lomond
without a car is easy and
removes the stress of getting
stuck in traffic or having to
find a parking space. We
have put together some fun
options on how to explore
Loch Lomond minus a car.

You can travel to Loch

Lomond by public transport.
One option is to take the train
to Balloch south Loch
Lomond. Or take the train to
Tarbet north Loch Lomond.
The two train stations are
linked by the West Loch
Lomond Cycle Path. Links to
planning your journey can be
found in the info section of
this guide.
Once arriving in Loch
Lomond, why not explore by
boat. In Balloch, Sweeney’s
Cruise Co has operated boats
since 1880s and the ticket
office is across from Balloch
train station. In Tarbet and
Luss, Cruise Loch Lomond
operate a fleet of boats which
take passengers to different
parts of Loch Lomond.

LOCH LOMOND
A great way to explore by bike
is to use the West Loch
Lomond Cycle Path. The route
between Balloch and Tarbet is
mainly off road and flat and
the scenery is breathtaking. It
is approx. 17 miles but offers
shorter sections where you
can enjoy scenic viewpoints
and small beaches which are
ideal for a picnic and a paddle.

It is approx. 8 miles to travel

between Balloch and Luss.
The cycle path is all off road
except for a minor road
through Aldochlay into Luss
village. There are plenty of
amenities in Luss for
refreshments. A popular picnic
spot is Firkin Point which is 13
miles from Balloch. This spot
has picnic benches, bins and
public toilets.
When beginning in Balloch,
you can find the cycle path by
looking for the blue signs
signposting NCN40 or making
your way to the Tree Zone
attraction at Loch Lomond
Shores. From there the path
follows Old Luss Road towards
Duck Bay Marina.

LOCH LOMOND
Duck Bay Marina is a good
place to spot the fishing stick
men statues on the pier or the
people on their paddleboards.
After a short time on the cycle
path after Duck Bay Marina
you will pass The Carrick Golf
Club and Loch Lomond Golf
Club where you may spot a
famous face on their way to
use these prestigious courses.

When you reach the village

of Luss follow signs for the
Lodge on the Loch hotel
where the cycle path
continues after the village.
The cycle path gets closer to
the shoreline of Loch
Lomond in some parts until
you reach the final
destination of Tarbet.

There are great viewpoints to

stop and enjoy Ben Lomond
sitting majestically on the
opposite side of the loch.
Along the route are small
beaches where you can skim
stones or have a paddle.
Although the water may look
tempting, swimming is not
recommended.
