WHAT   IS   COUPLER
Rebar couplers are used for
joining rebars with full tension
capacity. The ends of bars to be
joined are provided with Parallel
threads, and the bars are joined
using a coupler sleeve that
transfers the force on the rebar
across the connection.

Why coupler is use in reinforcement?
The coupler in reinforcement is used since it is
economical and cost efficient unlike the
lapping system, where some part of the bar is
wasted due to lapping. The rebar coupler is
particularly cost efficient for large diameter bars
in the big projects of construction and
construction of skyscrapers.

What are the benefits of using coupler in building?

• Rebar Coupler eliminate tedious lap calculations.

• Rebar Coupler are fast and easy to install and requires no specialized skilled
labour.
• Rebar couplers are cost effective by reducing labour costs and accelerating job
schedules.
• Dowel bar substitutes reduce labour on site, formwork costs and increase job site

What is coupler in steel?
Mechanical Couplers are the cylindrical element that connects the
two rotating edges of reinforcement bars, also known as an
alternative to lapping rebars. The grade of the coupler should be
equivalent or higher to the reinforcement bars which ensures the
maximum transmission of the load stresses from one bar to another.

Can we use coupler in beam?

Further, when the couplers are installed at the site, they are staggered to
avoid any weak joints. These couplers can be used for beams, slabs,
columns, shear links, etc.

Codes for reinforcement couplers?
This standard covers the requirements and tests applicable to
reinforcement couplers to be used in reinforced concrete
constructions for mechanical splicing of bars conforming to:

• IS 16172 • DN 1045
• IS 1786 • ACI 318
• Eurocode-2 • IBC

Frequently Asked Questions
Which is better coupling or lapping or welding?
So, from the above comparison, we can see rebar
couplers or mechanical splices are far better than
lapping or welding. We can use it in any construction
effectively.

Which bar should be Joggled in coupler joint?

On the construction site, always the top bar of the
column is joggled for the lapping purpose.

Is rebar threaded?
Bars are being threaded at site with the help of our
machine set installed at site.

Synviro’s Reinforcing Bar Couplers
SYN-Couplers are designed to join two reinforcing bars of the same size. They can be assembled in the
same concrete pour or in separate concrete pours with the assistance of nailing plates and small
polystyrene block-outs
