Abstract
In recent years, fully thermally coupled distillation sequences have become increasingly of interest as distillation
systems are responsible for the highest amount of energy consumption in the chemical industry. The use of an intensified
system for the separation of a multicomponent feed into three fractions in one column shell with one or more dividing walls,in
general with one reboiler and one condenser, regardless of the number of products is called a dividing wall column.
Since the first implementation of dividing wall columns, the number of these columns has increased. The position of the
divided wall is not limited to the middle of the column; it can also be placed either at the bottom or at the top of the
column.Concerning the column design, dividing wall columns have moved more and more into the focus of research and
development, because dividing wall columns are a promising technology for creating sustainable, more energy and
economically efficient processes.

Conclusion: In this paper, we have concluded that, When compared to the side draw column, the dividing wall column has a more
complex nature, shown through degrees of freedom analysis.
Conclusion: Five main types of Dividing wall Columns are classified based on (1) the
location of the two ends of the dividing wall (2) the number of condensers and reboilers associated
with the dividing wall, and (3) the number and type of transfer streams across the dividing wall.

Conclusion : As the number of components to be separated increases, the number of columns and the energy
required to run these columns also increase. This results in huge capital costs that are unaffordable due to
limited energy resources. Divided wall column is capable of separating mixtures of three or more components to
high purity products with energy less than the conventional process. The DWC is the most widely practiced
distillation technique among the various energy-efficient distillation systems available, and many studies have
examined its energy-saving performance, design, optimization, and control behavior.
