1. Define sustainable development and discuss some of the key issues that are essential in such a process.

Sustainable development is being able to consistently provide what the present has to receive in such a way
that the requirements of the future are has not to be sacrificed. It is also about the progress of every society
where there is peace and understanding, good leadership and membership of every citizen. Sustainable
development is indeed a great idea and a very goal of so many environmentalist today, which I can say is a true
solution to every issues that arises in every idea for development. Mostly issues that are involved begins in
both end of the arrow, ourselves and our leaders, these are the things are the main issues, because of the
misunderstanding because of the “unwantedness” to understand when the two parties meet there is always a
problem that come up. This is where I guess everything has started and yet this is also where solutions have to
begin.

2. How is cultural diversity relevant to SD and ESD?

Cultural diversity is so relevant with ESD, aside from that fact that when speak of cultural diversity we are also
talking about people of different group who are raised differently in maybe different climate, different places
but both are environment, knowing this each group might be exposed into different scenarios that happened
around their environment so different than the others, that have also possibly created different ways of solving
the problems that they have encountered in their environment, and these ideas and actions that have taken
into their place might also be taken to other place. So, to generalize having this cultural diversity opens ideas,
able to build connections to know more of the world’s need, and to share ideas that are so useful to construct
more of sustainable development. And that is how relevant cultural diversity is to Education and Sustainable
development.

3. Why is sustainable development often associated with protecting the environment?

Sustainable development is often associated with protecting our environment, because we depend on our
environment. It is where we get our everyday needs, and it is also the source of the material foundation
towards development, however due to malpractices on how we get services from, our environment is now at
risk, this is the main reason, why, when we talk about sustainable development we often have to give attention
to the our environment because it is where the supply comes from for us to be able to sustain development.

4. What can you do, as a citizen, for development to be sustainable?

As a citizen, for development to be sustainable we must start everything within us, by making our way of life
better not only for our own but for everyone, and by doing actions to also encourage others to act. I know it
will be a long way toward a development that is sustainable but the first step as they say is the 99.99 percent
of that way, so as a citizen maybe applying what I learned in ESD in my daily life, might not be that visible yet,
but I know someday it will be.

5. Cite some “good practice” example of ESD.

One of the good example that I can consider as a good practice of ESD is the latest trade event in Pasay just

not just useful to them and to constructors but are also beneficial to the environment, as the man that was
being interviewed in the news I watched said that aside from presenting their work they are also conducting
short orientation to share the importance of considering the effects of our decisions and choices to our
environment. In their own ways they have able to introduce SD’s connections with what we do and what we
can do. And choosing the right materials as foundation of our future is a good start.

6. What does it mean when people says ESD related to everything?

When people say ESD relates to everything for me it means that everything has something to do with ESD.
Education is needed in order to give the proper action to the current issues that the environment are facing
and to also identify what has to be sustained, and what has to be used to sustain so that we can achieved
sustainable development. However ESD is not just about what was thought and what has learned during
school days, it is about the lessons learned in our everyday that can be found everywhere in everything.
Everything has its own impact to everything. The success and failure always has an effect to everything to
achieve sustainable development that is why ESD is usually relates to everything.

7. Evaluate: does your institution/work station have a sustainable development strategy?

Yes, in the work place that I am working the sustainable strategy that I have observed is that every time that
our boss purchase things that will be needed, she makes sure that it has high quality so that it can be used
longer and better compare to some other brands that has low quality, through her way I can see sustainability
because purchasing products that can be used just a couple of days though usually it’s a lot more cheaper will
just waste effort, time and money. Waste the effort of the manufacturers, waste the materials used to make
that product, waste the time of making and purchasing that product and the money as well.

8. Identify at least three (3) spaces of learning in ESD and discuss each.

ESD is for anybody, in whatever point of their life we wanted. It takes our whole life of learning it’s either
formal, non-formal, or informal, from our first day to our last day. And
Formal Education- is a space of learning in ESD where learning is guided with principles and objectives
that are expected to achieve within the target period. ESD is learned here from pre-school to higher education
institution.
Non-Formal Education- includes the adult and the community. It tries to reach out those in the
community whether organized by the state, by non-governmental organizations, communities or learners
themselves, non-formal education programs are often those most closely related with direct application and
functional outcomes. Example are in Community-based organizations and local civil society and in the
workplace
Informal Education- exist everywhere in any time of day, it is a casual way of learning that usually gives
information through the people around us and through the live happening around us.
9. What are some of the challenges for ESD?

Some of the challenges in ESD are advocacy and vision building, consultation and ownership, partnership and
networks, capacity building and training, research and innovation, use of Information and Communication
Technologies (ICTs), and monitoring and evaluation.
All of the challenges stated should work as one in order for a sustainable development to occur.

10. How does 1 semester discussion of Subject- ESD help you as a person? as a teacher?

Education for sustainable help me as a teacher and as person because through this I have able to be
introduced to some of the ways on how I can apply sustainable ways for me to be an effective teacher by
engaging ways to my lesson for my learners to be an instrument for a sustainable development. One semester
is indeed so fruitful because for less than 20 days there where so many knowledge that came into me which I
can use for my lifetime already and can also be a legacy ones I shared it, though I feel like I want more days to
be with this subject everything has to end but things I gained from this subject will remain forever.
