Cursing of the Fig Tree – Temple Cleansing – Jesus Authority Questioned

The day commemorates the important events that occurred during Jesus’ journey into
Jerusalem: the cursing of the fig tree, the question of Jesus’ authority, and the Cleansing of
the Temple

Jesus left Bethany for Jerusalem. During this return to the city, Jesus became hungry. Along
the route, he saw a fig tree. But as he approached the tree, he found nothing on it but only
leaves. Seeing this, Jesus cursed the fig tree and it withered at once.

Fruitless Faith-the Jewish people were fruitless (non-productive) in practicing their faith

Jesus used the disciples’ surprise to teach on genuine faith in God -- rather than doubt or
simple amazement

jesus Cleanses The Temple & Expels All Commercial Activities on Holy Monday “Take these
things away – do not make my Father’s house a house of trade”, says Jesus!

It is said that Jesus visited the Temple in Jerusalem, where the courtyard was filled with
livestock, merchants

There were men who were selling animals at a very expensive price at the temple – this was
because Israelites needed animals and birds to sacrifice to God. The law of God said that
when an Israelite engages in any sinful activity, he must make an offering to God by
sacrificing an animal, as a way to compensate for their sins

So the Temple of Jerusalem was the main hub of commercial activities at that time, where
there was the sale of livestock animals at higher prices,

And making a whip of cords, he drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and oxen.
And he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables. And he told
those who sold the pigeons, “Take these things away; do not make my Father’s house a
house of trade.”

The significance of Holy Tuesday is not easily grasped. Challenge his deity

In a single day, Jesus would simultaneously condemn the religious authorities while
confirming His deity. The cleansing of the Temple on Holy Monday caused the Pharisees to
question Jesus’ right to do “these things.” Jesus had not received His authority from the
religious leaders . . . so they wanted answers. Attempts were made to force Jesus to state that
He had divine power from God. Then He could be charged with blasphemy, even arrested.

Discredit His Power

On Holy Tuesday, the conspiracies to trap Jesus escalated. Israel’s religious leaders had one
goal: to get rid of Jesus of Nazareth. If this meant cooperating with a lifelong enemy, any
means would be justified

Be Prepared -Soon the Temple would be destroyed and Jerusalem with it. As Jesus left the
Temple, His disciples asked two critical questions: “When will this happen[the destruction of
the Temple], and what will be the sign of your coming and the end of the age?” This prompted
Jesus’ prophetic Olivet Discourse found in Matthew 24–25. He not only answered their
questions, but presented practical lessons for those who will be living at that time,
encouraging them to be faithful, watchful, and prepared

Holy Wednesday highlights key moments in the lead-up to the crucifixion during
Christianity's most sacred week.

It is called Spy Wednesday because it is traditionally thought of as the day Judas Iscariot
conspired to betray Jesus in exchange for 30 pieces of silver.  The major event of Holy
Wednesday is Judas’ decision to betray Jesus.

Although the Bible does not specifically mention this particular day, according to traditional
interpretation of Scripture, it was on a Wednesday when a woman anointed Jesus with nard,
a costly aromatic oil.

As is described in Matthew 26:6-13, Jesus was at the house of Simon the leper in Bethany
when a woman came up to Jesus with an alabaster flask of this expensive ointment and
poured it on his head. The disciples thought it was wasteful and objected, arguing that it
could have been sold for a large sum and distributed to the poor.

Jesus, however, pushed back: “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a
beautiful thing to me. For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have
me. In pouring this ointment on my body, she has done it to prepare me for burial. Truly, I
say to you, wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will
also be told in memory of her.”

While the woman, who regrets her actions, expresses her remorse and returns to Jesus Christ, Judas
prepares for the betrayal of his Master. While the humiliated sinful woman saw the presence of the Savior
Christ, his disciple, despite being his follower for three years, plans to make a bargain in order to betray his
Master. Judas wants thirty pieces of silver in order to betray his Master.

Judas, after the betrayal, due to selfishness and cowardice kaʊ.ə.dɪs does not seek repentance from his
Master. And Peter, after his denial dɪˈnaɪ.əl of Jesus, is sure of the unwavering love of Christ and,
repentance is restored to the apostolic office. It is up to each individual to choose freely, to decide, and
to move towards darkness or light.
