Teaching definitions

Approaches: An approach is a theory about how people tend to learn, it can be


about a language or in general, cognitivism and behaviorism are examples of
approaches. Some philosophies say that the training of the brain makes a person
capable of doing many different things, these saying has impacted some methods
of language teaching.
Method: Is the application of an approach in the context of language teaching, an
example of a method can be “the grammar-translation method”, which consists of
the translation of second language material into the student’s mother tongue, with
this method we acquire the rules of a language
Procedures: There are the step-by-step measures to execute a method, a
common procedure for the grammar translation method is called The ESL/ELL
teachers survival guide, which mainly consists in memorizing vocabulary and
grammar rules, and then using them in an example where the teacher points out
the mistakes, and then provides the right answer to the student.
Techniques: Is a single activity that comes from a procedure, any unique step of
any procedure is considered a technique, various methods employ various
techniques.
