Philippine Corruption
From my perspective, I believe that selfishness and greed are unquestionably the
main causes of corruption. My observations reveal that those people of authority exhibit
greed due to their obsession with money. I also noticed that one of the most pervasive
corrupt practices in our society today is bribery. Even in local agencies, many people in
positions of authority accept an offer, promise, or gift in exchange for fair treatment or
favor. It is prevalent in our country now more than ever and it has been growing for the
longest period.
Corruption is still a major problem in today's society, even though there are many
laws in place to penalize it. Perhaps human greed—the obsessive desire to possess
more of anything than is required, like money—is to reason for this. The worst part is
that those who we put our trust in because we think they will be trustworthy in positions
of authority are frequently first overpowered by greed to the point where they are not
hesitant to engage in corruption. Also, the absence of a "respectable justice system" is
another notion as to what the underlying reason for corruption is. Because Philippine
justice cannot uphold the rule of law against powerful, corrupt famous officials and well-
known figures, it lacks credibility. Thus, the majority of us have lost faith in it. On the
other hand, for the Philippines to effectively combat corruption, identifying the root
reasons is essential. A few of the factors that contribute to corruption in our nation are
poverty, shoddy institutions, and a weak judicial system. Thus, while alleviating poverty,
our government should encourage economic growth. To combat corruption, the
government should also encourage ethical behavior because it encourages people to
act in their own best interests rather than out of selfish greed. The government should
place the greatest emphasis on strengthening the rule of law and increasing judicial
openness.
