Area of Research:
Our research is involved in exploring and understanding biological systems at the molecular level with a tool set
offered by modern chemistry. We work in the interface of organic chemistry and cell biology and manipulation of
cellular activity with bio-active molecules.
We believe that not only discovery of right bioactive molecules but also delivery of the molecules to the particular site
of action is equally challenging.
 Our major focus includes:
 Development of subtype specific histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors/activators as epigenetic modulators mainly
potent and isoform selective HDAC inhibitors with fairly acceptable blood brain barrier permeability to understand the
individual isoform of HDAC responsible to turn on or turn off the transcription machineries involved with the genes
responsible for the improvement of cognition, memory and mood stabilization of patients suffering from depression and
dementia.
 Exploration of epigenetic modulators as the emerging treatment strategy to combat different forms of cancer
 Discovery of promising drug candidates for the treatment of cancer in collaboration with different drug discovery
researchers.
 Development of biocompatible polymeric drug delivery cargo with the help of polymer chemistry to bring the drugs at
the site of action with less off target effects in collaboration with different drug delivery experts.
