Capstone strand I have chosen is Project Capstone
Proposed title for my project: Basic Performance Modifications

What is your inquiry question that interests you for further research? It should be a question that
connects with a purpose, passion or personalized area of interest for you. This is a question that
you cannot just google an answer for. Please see examples from your Capstone booklet.
My inquiry question is:

How does a basic modification, such as an intake, exhaust, and coil overs, effect the overall
performance and drivability of a vehicle?

Rationale/context: Detail your reasons for choosing this inquiry question. Explain WHY you are
choosing to investigate this topic as a major area of focus. How does this area of inquiry connect
to your passion(s), purpose? Why is it of personal interest to you?

I chose this inquiry question because I have a passion for cars, and eventually these
performance modification will be going into my car in the near future. This will further expand
my knowledge on cars, and help others who want to install these modifications to their cars.

Background: What background knowledge/connections/prior learning do you have in this

area of inquiry?

I have basic knowledge on what each component does in a car, where it is located, and how
to remove and install those components.

Career connections: What is your intended career area at this point in time? What
connections does this inquiry question have to your life, academic and/ or career goals?

In the future I would like to set my path towards engineering, and learning about the
mechanical components and the engineering that went into these parts, and understand how
it works.

I think it falls under Personal and Cultural Identity, personal values and choices. This is
because without my passion for cars this project would be useless because simply I wouldn’t
care for it.

Capstone Presentation medium: select one or more project mediums you wish to use to
present your project. Outline and give details about how you will present your project once
completed. You may use a combination of mediums.

I will present my capstone using my website, and PowerPoint. I will provide more raw
information using my website and make a more in dept presentation using PowerPoint.

Description of my Capstone project. Specific Project Details of the Capstone Project: what
will you research, create, study, produce, solve, investigate? What product will be produced
at the end of this project for evaluation. Write a one-page description outlining your
proposal.

I will research the purpose of a aftermarket, higher performance parts of a car, what type of
performance increase there is. I will also compare the difference between the factory and
aftermarket component, then I will explain why there is an increase or decrease in
performance. The end product will include a car, and the comparison between the stock and
aftermarket component, and some data to actually demonstrate the difference and increase in
performance. Which will include time trials.

Resources/ Technology/Skills: Make an assessment of the resources, technology and

skills you will need to be able to complete this project. What is your plan to be able to
access/learn all of the resources necessary to achieve completion of this project? Detail
your plans.

The resources I will need for this project is the internet, and some basic knowledge about
cars. Watch videos specific to the component i will be installing, then repeat for all the other
parts that i will install.

Mentors/Community Connections: What types of mentor(s)/community connections will
you need to help you complete your capstone project? How will your mentor(s) help you?
What is your plan to access the mentorship/community connections necessary for this
project?

I will need connections with mechanics, people who are further advanced with cars, or the
automotive teacher. My plan to access the community is to reach out to people who know a lot
about cars on Instagram and Facebook, and I will reach out to the auto teacher through
Microsoft Teams.

Project limitations: What are some project limitations and potential obstacles that you foresee
that might affect progress with your Capstone Project?

Some potential obstacles that I may foresee are parts being out of stock, and weather. With
car parts being out of stock, it may take several days for them to restock. With unclear
weathers, it will be unsafe to perform trials and tests.

Other considerations: List and detail any other related information/ considerations about
your project that you feel should be included in your project proposal.

One main thing I would put into consider is Money. Car parts are not cheap, and the time to
deliver may vary, which could throw me off from a plan. So meaning i will have to progress
through my project depending on when my parts arrive.
