Chosen Topic: Scenario B

You would like to establish a new student organization for a hobby or sport you share
with almost 100 students in your batch. However, the head of club organizations thinks that
establishing a student organization is unnecessary because you all talk about your interest outside
school anyway. So, you write the position paper to outline your arguments so that the head can see
your stand on the issue.

The students have their own passion that can be expressed through a sport or hobby. A student
organization that is intended for sports that specialize in nurturing their abilities and skills would
help them eventually. From my perspective, my proposed organization will be a way to help the
students build their character further. A school should not just teach and make students excel in
their academics, but it should also be capable of releasing and enhancing a student’s passion and
abilities in a certain sport or hobby. With the help of the student organization, students would be
given a chance to bring the best version of themselves and show their hidden potential in sports.

According to John Wooden, “Sports do not build character. They reveal it.” Therefore,
for a student to unlock their hidden persona and help to enhance their character more, the school
should play a role in leading students not just to achieve academic excellence but also to improve
their physical abilities and their passion for sports. Some students are called ‘book smart’ but do
not possess the ability to express themselves when it comes to sports. And there are students that
are more capable of doing well in sports than in academic excellence. The school should give
attention to students that have a burning passion when it comes to sports. Because someday they
could be an athlete. It will also benefit the school because it will get known on how they build their
students to be an athlete one day. An example of an athlete is Alyssa Caymo Valdez. She was a
member of the collegiate varsity women's volleyball team and represented Ateneo de Manila
University. Alyssa Valdez is known and admired not only in the Philippines but also in other
countries for being an outstanding indoor and beach volleyball player. Furthermore, establishing
a student association that incorporates the students' enthusiasm for sports is beneficial not just to
those prospective school athletes but also to the school.

In conclusion, the student organization regarding sports should be implemented to give

opportunities to students who want to pursue the path of an athlete or to express their passion for
a certain preferred sport. The school should not be a hurdle or a hindrance to students who have a
burning desire for sports inside of them. We all have wings (dreams), and to fly (to achieve), we
should be trained, guided, and most importantly, supported by the people around us.
