It is thought that sport has played an indispensable part in the educational life of
children; however, some people argue that sport should have been completely
considered as an alternative option. From my own perspective, there are valid
arguments on both sides which I will discuss now.

Some people feel that sport uses up time. The time in the school of children should be
spent to study academic subjects, it would be able for them to gain great career
opportunities in the future. Apart from the abovementioned drawbacks, playing sports
can also cause injuries to children, when children play sport a lot, the body will be
overloaded, leading to injuries or unexpected situations. On the other hand, regarding
some children without any interest or talent in sports, it is a burden and pressure when
they must study sports since they may have to suffer from aches and pains, cuts and
bruises.

In contrast, I agree that sport is a vital subject in education, and there are multifarious
reasons to endorse this view. First and foremost, since a healthy mind dwells in a
healthy body, sports would promote good mental ability and reduce study stress when
adolescents always allocating time for working out. Second, they could develop qualities
from sports such as team spirit, leadership, decision making, sportsmanship and
socialising. Last but not least, thanks to participating in these sports, children can find
their gift in sport; and as a result, they can choose sports as a profession and bring
name and fame for themselves in particular and their country in general.
In conclusion, it seems to me that sport should be compulsory for school children
because the substantial benefit on their mental and physical outweighs the
negatives. If sports is added to the curriculum of schools, it would set up a strong
foundation for youngsters and the nation as well.
