If the two letters are considered a whole word, you duplicate the whole
word. 休息休息

If the two letters aren’t considered a whole word and the words first letter
is a verb, like 跑，and the second is a noun, like 步， you can duplicate the
verb. 跑跑步

The duplication of verbs make the conversation more casual

However, there are some words that you can’t duplicate

How to use it

● For example you can use in a sentence like this when your speaking to
someone 弟弟你要看看书，要好好听课
● But you can’t duplicate the word if there is no noun after it so you can’t
got 跑跑一下you should write it like 跑跑步
● To emphasize something for example好好听课

● 姐姐看看新的白板。
● 叔叔昨天在公园跑跑步。
● 妈妈做的饭好好吃。
● 医生说你生病了，所以你休息休息。
● 老师说我们要好好学习，所以我们得了一百分。
