Health care analytics refers to the use of data and
analytical techniques to identify patterns and trends
that can be used to improve the delivery and
HealthCare effectiveness of health care. This can include
analyzing patient data to identify risk factors for
Sector certain conditions, analyzing the cost and outcomes
of different treatment options, and developing
predictive models to forecast future trends in the
health care industry. Health care analytics can be
used to improve patient outcomes, reduce costs, and
optimize the allocation of resources within the health
care system.
Types of Data Analytics in
HealthCare Sector
1. Descriptive: This type of analytics involves summarizing and
describing data to understand what has happened in the past. It is
often used to answer questions about historical trends or patterns.
2. Diagnostic: This type of analytics involves drilling down into the data
to understand why something happened. It is often used to identify
root causes of problems or issues.
3. Predictive: This type of analytics involves using data to make
predictions about future outcomes or events. It is often used to
forecast trends or identify potential risks or opportunities.
4. Prescriptive: This type of analytics involves not only making
predictions about the future, but also providing recommendations or
"prescriptions" for how to take action based on those predictions.
Examples of Data
Analytics
One example of data analytics in health care is
the use of predictive modeling to identify patients
at risk of developing certain conditions, such as
diabetes or heart disease. By analyzing patient
data such as age, gender, medical history, and
lifestyle factors, predictive models can identify
patterns and trends that may indicate an
increased risk of certain conditions. This
information can then be used to intervene early
and prevent the onset of these conditions,
improving patient outcomes and potentially
reducing costs.
Another example is the use of data analytics to analyze the cost and effectiveness
of different treatment options for a particular condition. By analyzing data on the
costs and outcomes of different treatments, health care providers can identify the
most cost-effective options and make more informed decisions about how to
allocate resources.
Data analytics can also be used to optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of the
health care system as a whole. For example, analyzing data on patient flow and
utilization of resources can help identify bottlenecks or inefficiencies and suggest
ways to improve the overall functioning of the system.
Implementation of
analytics
Implementing health care analytics often involves "wrangling" or manipulating large
and complex datasets to make them suitable for analysis. This can involve a variety
of tasks, such as:
1. Data cleaning: Removing errors, inconsistencies, or missing values from the data.
2. Data integration: Combining data from multiple sources or systems to create a
single, comprehensive dataset.
3. Data transformation: Modifying the data to make it more suitable for analysis,
such as by aggregating data or creating new variables.
4. Data visualization: Using graphical techniques to explore and understand the
data.
SOLUTION
After implementing Domo, Apria was able to gain a centralized perspective of its
sale metrics.
Real-time data was tracked by Domo which included cash balances, social media
performance data and website traffic.
Apria claims that Domo’s data analysis allowed the company to enhance its
decision-making capabilities such as providing insights into where it derived most
of its business and opportunities for increasing market visibility.
3.Qlik – Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta
Qlik Technologies offers a BI and analytics platform to help
companies achieve actionable insights from their data.
Qlik describes how it helped Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA)
improve its functionality in critical areas including operations,
finance and R&D. Described as one of the largest providers of
clinical care for children in the U.S., Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta
is spread across 3 hospitals, 16 neighborhood locations, and
manages the care of more than 500,000 patient visits each year.
FHCN operates across 16 federally qualified health centers and provides primary
healthcare services for more than 600,000 patient visits per year.
A major goal of the healthcare organization was to improve its performance in the
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Uniform Data System (UDS) reporting.
Data collected is this system are reviewed annually to ensure that health centers
maintain compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements
SOLUTION
Family HealthCare Network decided upon Dundas
BI initially due to its HTML5 compliance
capabilities. As an existing Dundas Dashboard
customer, FHCN required a BI tool that allowed
them to easily scale up the solution and reach all
users within the organization. FHCN was able to
integrate Dundas BI into their existing portal and
data sources with minimal effort. With Dundas BI
being a server-based technology, FHCN’s
deployment of the solution was a simple
endeavor, ultimately allowing performance
analysis, without client-side installations
Why Dundas BI
-Drag-and-Drop Visual Data Discovery
This tool allows Family HealthCare Network to quickly view, create, interact
with, personalize and monitor their own Excel data files
-Automatic Joins & Hierarchies
FHCN enjoys being able to drag-and-drop data files and automatically have
hierarchies deigned and defined, based on existing data relationships
-Integrate & Embed
Family HealthCare Network benefited from the ability to integrate Dundas BI
into their existing business systems such as SharePoint, allowing them to
streamline processes and maximize efficiencies
-Data Preparation
FHCN took advantage of Dundas BI’s flexibility around data preparation, as
well as the ability to use their existing unique SQL select statements vs.
having to use auto-generated queries in order to achieve pre-defined outputs
