Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that over 38 lakh


students have registered for Pariksha Pe Charcha this year, which is
50 percent more as compared to the previous year. Addressing a
press conference in New Delhi, Mr Pradhan said out of these
students, around 16 lakh are from the State Boards from across the
country. The Minister also informed that 102 students have been
invited across the country to attend the interactive programme with
Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be held on the 27th of January at
Talkatora Stadium in the national capital. Mr. Pradhan said the
Ministry has received over 20 lakh questions from students for the
programme. Around 15.5 lakh students had registered last year.

Chief of Army Staff Gen Manoj Pande has carried out a


comprehensive review of India’s military preparedness along the line
of actual control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh in his first visit to the
border state after last month’s clash between Indian and Chinese
forces in the Tawang sector. Officials said that Gen Pande visited
various forward posts along the de facto border with China in the
rest of Arunachal Pradesh as well as some other strategically key
posts during his visit on Sunday. They said that senior commanders
in Arunachal briefed the army chief about the overall security
scenario in the border areas.

Pasighat East MLA Kaling Moyong today flagged off a massive


traffic safety cum anti-drug awareness campaign, organised by the
All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF) in East
Siang district at Pasighat today. DC cum Chairman District Road
Safety Committee, Tayi Taggu, SP Sumit Kumar Jha and DTO Marik
Loyi among others, besides the students, drivers of public transport
and commercial vehicles also joined the awareness drive to spread
the message of Road safety for Life safety in the district.

The Tawang police on Monday arrested an ex-army man,


identified as Ashok Kumar alias Ranbir Singh, for allegedly killing his
two-year-old son. Reportedly, the alleged accused absconded from
the scene after committing the murder but was arrested based on
information provided by the gram panchayat chairperson of Jang.

Tawang SP informed that the police had received a complaint from
Mamta Chetry, the mother of the deceased, alleging that her
husband had brutally killed their son. Kumar is a native of Punjab
and runs a grocery shop in Tawang.

Parakram Diwas, commemorating the 126th Birth Anniversary


of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, was celebrated by the All East
Siang Bengali Welfare Society, Pasighat on Monday at 2-Mile area in
a befitting manner. Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao, Pasighat East MLA
Kaling Moyong, in-charge East Siang DC Tatdo Borang, PMC Chief
Okiam Borang, ex-AAPSU GS Tobom Dai and many prominent
personalities paid floral tributes to one of the greatest sons of the
country and spoke on the occasion. Traditional songs and dances
were performed by Bengali, Adi, Assamese, Mising, Nepali, Coch-
Rajbangshi and Monipuri groups. Speaking on the occasion, Chief
Guest Tapir Gao said that Netaji was an icon of sacrifice and
discipline.

The Ramakrishna Mission School, Narottamnagar in Tirap


district of Arunachal Pradesh celebrated the second phase of its
Golden Jubilee on Monday. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein
attended the programme as Chief Guest. He was accompanied by
Minister Wangki Lowang, MLAs Wanglin Lowangdong, Wanglam
Sawin & Chakat Aboh, and Chief Secretary Dharmendra, Swami
Suvirananda Maharaj, General Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission and
Swami Achyuteshananda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission,
Narottamnagar among others. On the occasion, Mein along with the
other dignitaries unveiled a 12 feet statue of Lord Buddha seated on
a 12 feet pedestal along with a plaque naming the new
road’ Vivekananda Marg‘ and laid the foundation stone for the
proposed convention hall within the school premises. A plantation
drive was also carried out on the occasion.

The three-day Monastic festival of Monpa tribe, ‘Torgya festival’


of Tawang was celebrated at the Tawang Monastery from 20-22
January. Torgya is celebrated by the Monpa tribe of the Tawang
Monastery to pay homage to Lama Tsongkhapa. The Indian Army
also participated in the event and reaffirmed their commitment
towards the protection of the Indian borders and their own people.

The 2nd edition of Kangir Jamoh Memorial Pasighat Premier
League (KJMPPL) being organised by the Adi Bane Kebang and Abor
Youth Foundation in collaboration with the East Siang District
Administration, District Olympic Association and District Football
Association got underway at JNC playground, Pasighat on Monday.
In the opening match of the tournament, BSC FC played out a 3-3
draw with SIKA FC.
