The 13th National Voters Day ( NVD) is being celebrated across the
country today. The theme for this year NVD’s is 'Nothing Like
Voting, I Vote for Sure'. On the occasion, President Droupadi
Murmu will present the National Awards for the year 2022. Since
2011, National Voters’ Day has been celebrated on January 25
every year, all across the country to mark the foundation day of the
Election Commission of India, that is 25th January 1950. The main
purpose of the NVD celebration is to create electoral awareness
amongst citizens and encourage them to participate in the electoral
process.

Nagaland is celebrating the 13th National Voters Day today. A state


level celebration programme is being organised at Kohima. Chief
Electoral Officer Nagaland V Shashank Shekhar will administer the
national Voters day Pledge and deliver speech. On the occasion,
three village Councils will be felicitated for resolving for a free and
fair election, besides other presentation of awards.

President Droupadi Murmu will address the nation today on the eve
of the 74th Republic Day. The address will be broadcast from 7 PM
on the entire national network of All India Radio. The event will
also be telecast over all channels of Doordarshan in Hindi followed
by the English version. Broadcast of the address in Hindi and
English on Doordarshan will be followed by broadcast in regional
languages by regional channels of Doordarshan. AIR will broadcast
regional language versions from 9:30 PM onwards on its respective
regional network.

Production Commissioner , Nagaland R Binchilo Thong said Civil
servants are the backbone of the state, working as a bridge
between the common people and the government, as all policies
and programmes are processed and executed through them.
Addressing the combined inaugural function of the NCS
(Probationers) 2023 Batch Foundation Course and the 52nd Batch
NSS (Probationers ) Foundation Course held at Administrative
Training Institution Kohima yesterday, Thong said, being a fresh
entrants into government service, training becomes more important
as it improves the occupational skill and knowledge of the
employee to work effectively with integrity and instill a sense of
community service and belongingness. The Director General, also
said both NCS and NSS are equally important as both services
work hand in hand with each other to look after the administration
of the State. A total of 35 NSS and 10 NCS Probationers will
undergo the foundation course.

Dimapur Police has prohibited bursting of fire crackers, use of


loudspeakers, beating of drums or tom-tom or blowing of trumpet
or any sound producing instrument or musical instrument or any
sound amplifier at night between 10 PM and 6 AM except in public
emergencies. In an order issued on Commissioner of Police
Dimapur, Kevithuto Sophie, stated that the move was in compliance
to the National Commission tor Protection of Child Right letter and
in view of the ensuing school examination. Further, in order to
maintain the ambient noise standard, use of loudspeakers or any
sound producing instrument or musical instrument should not
exceed beyond the permissible limit of 75 dB in industrial area, 65
dB in commercial area, 55 dB in residential area and 50 dB in
silence zone during the day from 6 AM to 10 PM. The Police
also cautioned that any person found violating the provision of the
Rule would be penalized as per the provisions of law.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan informed that over


38 lakh students have registered for Pariksha Pe Charcha this year,
which is 50 percent more as compared to the previous year.
Around 15.5 lakh students had registered last year. Addressing a
press conference in New Delhi yesterday, Pradhan said out of these
students, around 16 lakh are from the State Boards from across the
country. The Minister also informed that 102 students have been
invited across the country to attend the programme being held on
the 27th of this month at Talkatora Stadium in the national capital.

An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 struck Nepal yesterday afternoon,


killing one person and damaging several houses. Tremors were felt
as far as Uttarakhand, Delhi and its adjoining areas. According to
the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center at
Kathmandu, the epicenter of the quake was at Mela of Bajura
district.
