Lesson 3
Google Docs is identical to other word processing applications like
Microsoft Word, Apple iWork, Open Office, Libre Office, etc. Google
Docs is an online free word processor, web based and offered by
Google. Google Docs is a robust real-time collaboration and
document editing and authoring tool. With almost identical
functions and menus in Microsoft Word, Google Docs is widely used
in online jobs because it is free and can let multiple users edit a
document simultaneously. All activities done by any of the
document collaborators can be viewed by the others.
Docs supports several different file types, including .doc, .docx .txt,
.rtf, and .odt, which makes it easy to view and convert Microsoft
Office files directly from Google Drive. You can share and
collaborate with multiple people on the same document, tracking
revisions, changes, and suggestions in real time because Docs is an
online word processor.

Before you can start to use Google Docs, you must log in to your
Google account. The school provides your Google account. It has the
domain name hcdc.edu.ph. Docs work best in Chrome, but you can
always use it in any web browser.
Once logged in, you can open Google Docs in at least two ways. The
first way is to click on the little grid. When clicked, the different
Google Apps will be displayed. Choose the banner for Docs.

If you choose to open Docs, you will be led to the following window.

You can choose from among the different templates, depending on
the type of document you want to create.
You will see the Docs editor page when you click the Blank
template.

Hover your mouse through each icon on the formatting toolbar to
know its purpose.

Word or PDF. Click on the File menu, choose Download, and select your desired

To enable collaboration with your teams, you have to share your document.
Click on the Share button in the document editor's top right corner.

You can share your document by typing the email addresses of those who want
to share the file. You can also control the type of assignment (i.e., Viewer,
Creating a Commenter, Editor). Only those who are assigned as Editors can make changes
to the document.

You may also share the file by just providing the link to those whom
you want to share the file with and control their type of access.

Only those with the link can access your file if you choose Restricted
as the access type. If you choose Holy Cross of Davao College,
anyone with a valid HCDC account can access the file. If you choose
Anyone with the link, anyone with a copy can access it.
With Google Docs, you can do document and text formatting similar
to Microsoft Word. You can also insert images, tables, drawings,
emojis, and many others. Navigate to the different tools and menus
found in the Google Docs editor.
